Overall Opinion:

I gave Tan Towel Self Tanning Moisturizer 2.5 out of 5 stars, so it’s an average self tanner.

I like how easy it is to use; it’s a white lotion so you don’t even need to use a mitt if you don’t want to.

The price point is also good.

The things I didn’t like are how it smells and the color.  It smells really gross, like DHA and sunscreen mixed together.

The color was almost invisible. Even after applying for 3 days, I could barely see my tan because it was so light.  This may work better as a tan extender, but as a self tanner, I didn’t really care for it.

So this one has some negatives and some positives, and overall it was pretty average for a gradual self tanner.

Detailed Opinion:

Look and Feel

Tan Towel Self Tanning Moisturizer is a white lotion with a consistency on the thinner side.  It’s not watery, but it is a little bit runny.  There’s no guide in it; it comes out looking a lot like your daily body lotion would.

The lotion felt soft and smooth.

Application

I found this self tanner was very easy to apply.

You can choose to use a tanning mitt or not, because it’s white in color (you don’t need to worry about a guide getting all over).  I chose to forego a mitt, and it was still really easy to apply (didn’t even stain my palms).

But the one caveat is you need to pay very close attention when you apply.  It’s very easy to miss spots with this one. But you should be fine as long as you pay close attention and apply like you would your normal body lotion.

Drying Time

This tanner took about 25 minutes to dry.

While I waited for it to dry, I was relieved I didn’t have to worry about staining any clothing or furniture.  I also didn’t feel too sticky or wet while I waited for it to dry.

Smell (Before Application)

I really didn’t care for the smell of Tan Towel Self Tanning Moisturizer. To me, it smells like sunscreen mixed with DHA.  Right when I opened the bottle I could smell it, and the smell became stronger as I applied.

Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)

The bad smell stuck around until I showered the product off.

In the morning, I kind of smelled like baby powder and self tanner, yuck!

Color Produced

This is a gradual self tanner, so I didn’t expect to see much color after the first application.  But after 3 applications, my tan still wasn’t very noticeable at all.  If you’re looking for a light tan, then the color isn’t bad, but it’s also not a color that really wowed me.

I had a few weird looking dry areas around my feet and ankles, which is weird because the rest of my body felt very hydrated after use.

My tan was a little on the yellow side, which may work for some skin tones out there, but for me it wasn’t my favorite.  Like I said, not the worst tan ever, but nothing to write home about either.

This would be a good one to use to prolong an existing dark tan.

How Long It Lasts

As with most gradual tanners, you’ll need to apply this one more often.  I’d say my tan lasted around 2 days, and by the third day, I was ready to apply it again.  Good thing it comes in a big bottle because you’ll be using this one often.

No, unless you’re using to prolong as existing tan.
