Overall Opinion:
If you have a fair complexion and are looking for a slightly sun-kissed look, Il Makiage Magic Moisturizing Sun Foam Face and Body would be a great product for you. However, if you have a darker skin-tone, or want to achieve a medium-to-dark tan, this tanner is one to skip.
The sun foam has a lot of great features. It’s fairly easy to apply, moisturizing, dries quickly, and the tan it produces is natural-looking and glowing.
However, this self-tanner isn’t going to give you much color, leading you to apply product more frequently as your slight tan fades quickly. At this price point, I don’t think anyone wants to go through a bottle quickly!
Personally, I think there are much better products on the market that deliver a darker, longer-lasting tan at a more affordable price point than Il Makiage Magic Moisturizing Sun Foam Face and Body, so this one was just okay in my book.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
Il Makiage Magic Moisturizing Sun Foam Face and Body is a caramel-colored tanning foam. The foam itself has an average consistency compared to other tanning foams I’ve used (which is a lot!).
The initial appearance of the tanner is very natural—definitely a self-tanner you could leave the house wearing without a second thought. The color guard is subtle, too, so it’s not apparent you’re using a self-tanner.
I can understand why Il Makiage calls this product a moisturizing sun foam because that’s how it felt when I applied it to my body—very hydrating overall. When applied to my face, it felt really wet initially, but that went away once the product fully absorbed.
Application
The application for Il Makiage Magic Moisturizing Sun Foam Face and Body was really easy. They send you a mitt to use for tanning your body, and a small brush—similar to a kabuki brush– for applying the tanner to your face.
For the body, Il Makiage recommends 2-4 pumps of product per body part, adding more if needed, and for your face, starting with 2 pumps and going from there.
While the product was simple to apply with the mitt, that wasn’t my experience with the brush. I found the brush a little more challenging to blend the product in. I was able to do it, but this could be intimidating for those new to self-tanning.
Additionally, the color guard for this tanning foam is very subtle, so it doesn’t totally serve its purpose at helping you avoid a streaky tan.
Drying Time
Il Makiage Magic Moisturizing Sun Foam Face and Body dried relatively quickly on the body, but it took longer for it to dry on my face. I’m not totally sure why—maybe because of the brush vs. mitt application technique?
For both, though, I would say my skin felt dry in about 5-10 minutes.
Once the product was completely dry, I didn’t feel sticky on my face or body. I was able to get dressed and go about my day without any issues.
Smell (Before Application)
I really enjoy the smell of Il Makiage Magic Moisturizing Sun Foam Face and Body! It \ doesn’t have a gross self-tanner odor.
It smells a lot like coco butter, which is one of my favorite scents, so that was a check in the positive column for me. However, it’s not a strong scent, so you don’t have to worry about smelling too sweet!
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
Big bummer—as the tan developed, so did the nasty self-tanner scent we’re all hoping to avoid. Ugh!
This is a common thing I’ve noticed about a lot of self-tanners, so Il Makiage Magic Moisturizing Sun Foam Face and Body isn’t unique in this. I’m just annoyed because the initial odor was great, and I was surprised by the gross tanner scent that emerged.
Color Produced
Unlike a lot of other self-tanning products, Il Makiage Magic Moisturizing Sun Foam Face and Body only has one shade—85/66. While the brand claims it’s a universal shade that will self-adjust based on skin tone, I’m not sure I buy it.
I think this is a great product for someone with very pale skin, but for someone with a bit more pigment in his or her skin, this won’t (and didn’t!) produce a dark tan at all.
While the color itself was very natural and glowing, it just looked like I stood out in the sun for a few minutes. It’s a light tan, at best, but definitely not something you can achieve medium or dark shades with.
How Long It Lasts
My tan faded about two days after applying Il Makiage Magic Moisturizing Sun Foam Face and Body.
I think it’s probably because the tan was so light to begin with, so there wasn’t much of a tan to fade. It faded evenly, however, which is always appreciated.
OK For Men?
Yes! I don’t see any reason why men couldn’t use Il Makiage Magic Moisturizing Sun Foam Face and Body.
The face brush might be a learning curve since it’s a lot like a makeup brush, but I still think they could use this product if desiring a light tan.
Price
Il Makiage Magic Moisturizing Sun Foam- Face and Body is one of the pricier self-tanners on the market. It costs nearly $15 per fluid ounce.
Since the product itself is pretty average, I’d say this isn’t worth the money. There are far better self-tanners on the market today at a much more affordable price point.
