Overall Opinion:
Overall, I don’t think this mousse really lives up to the hype. I’ve seen this product all over social media as it’s Loving Tan’s newest launch. Anytime a brand launches an extremely dark tanner I get excited to try it! But unfortunately, this one isn’t very good.
I found my tan to be extremely orange and unnatural looking. Most of my body didn’t look very tan at all, it only took in certain areas like my knees and ankles, and that’s where I looked really orange.
Also, as the tan faded it really dried my skin out. This is one of the most drying tanners I’ve used, and that caused it to fade very badly.
This mousse is one of the priciest out there, so I guess I just expected a little more from it. When I’m paying $40 for a 3 ounce bottle, I expect to get a top notch self tanner…and this just ain’t it.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
This mousse is like all other Loving Tan mousses, it comes out with a very dark color guide. The color guide is pretty dark compared to most, and is brown in color.
The guide color doesn’t look very natural once applied, so you can’t apply this one and then wear it out.
Application
You absolutely must use a mitt to apply this mousse…if you don’t it will be a disaster. Even with a mitt, I found this one was kinda hard to blend in, and the guide looked streaky on my body once applied.
Drying Time
Like a lot of mousses out there, this one takes forever to dry. It feels extremely sticky for hours, and I was uncomfortable the entire time I had it on.
Unlike most of Loving Tan’s mousses, this one is not a 2 hour express mousse, you need to keep it on for 8 hours.
Needless to say, I couldn’t wait to shower it off after 8 hours in the morning!
Smell (Before Application)
Loving Tan Platinum Mousse has a faint coconut scent, but the overwhelming smell is DHA. It has a pretty strong self tanner smell that I’m not a fan of.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
It still smells like self tanner, even after wearing it for 8 hours (overnight). The scent went away when I showered the product off.
Color Produced
Loving Tan touts their platinum mousse as their darkest tan yet, so I was super excited to try it (I love a deep tan).
I unfortunately wasn’t very impressed with the color I got from this tanner. It was extremely orange in some areas (like my ankles, knees, elbows), and the rest of my body wasn’t that dark. The color just wasn’t natural looking on my skin. I have very fair skin with pinkish undertones, and this one was very orangey on me.
I actually got a better tan just using their dark or ultra dark shade.
How Long It Lasts
My tan lasted around 4 days and it was SO patchy as it faded. It looked very unnatural as it faded, my orange areas didn’t even completely fade for about a week. It completely dried my skin out too, so my skin was really dry for about a week after using it (despite daily moisturizing).
This one won’t work well for those of you out there with naturally dry skin.
OK For Men?
No, I don’t think men will like this tanner much. If they want a really dark tan there are better ones out there.
Price
Loving Tan Platinum Mousse is extremely expensive. It’s over $12 per ounce, which is one of the prices tanners on the market.
A 3 ounce bottle is $40, which is crazy!
