Overall Opinion:
In my opinion this is one of the worst self tanners we’ve tried.
The dark guide makes it extremely messy, and the thick consistency makes it hard to blend in.
The product gets everywhere, and it’s not easy to clean up.
The color was too light for my liking, with such a dark guide I expected a darker tan.
The smell is very alcohol-like, and the final results are a little streaky.
The product did come with gloves though, which was nice :)
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
Sun Goddess Sunless Tanning Lotion is a thick black lotion that almost resembles tar. It feels pretty heavy, and is an extremely dark color coming out of the bottle.
Application
The application of this product was a lot more difficult and messy then I expected.
Usually I expect a mess when using a mouse or a mist, but not a lotion. This product was one of the exceptions: it got all over the place!
Due to the dark black/brown color you have to be extremely careful when applying it. I’m not sure how but somehow it got on my carpet and my bed skirt- and I am extremely careful when applying my self-tanning products.
It was also very difficult to blend into my skin, it took a good 5 minutes of rubbing and blending before I couldn’t see the product on my body anymore.
Let’s just say it took more work than most products do, and more work than I’m willing to do again.
The plus side is they give you gloves to apply the product with.
Drying Time
Drying time was about 45 minutes to 1 hour, so a little longer than average.
Plus it was a REAL pain not being able to touch anything while drying, for fear of turning it the black shade of the guide.
Smell (Before Application)
When I started pumping the product out of the bottle I was immediately overwhelmed by the smell of alcohol.
Someone else in the office thought this product smelled decent, but I couldn’t get past the “chemically” alcohol scent.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
I really couldn’t smell much of anything the next day after showering it off, the good news is that means no nasty DHA smell.
Color Produced
Besides the guide being so dark and messy, I was a little excited about it as I thought it would give me a really dark tan. I was sadly mistaken.
Sun Goddess got me a light-medium shade at best. I would’ve liked to have gotten a little darker.
The next day I also noticed some streaking in areas where I had some difficulty blending this product in (like I said before, I’m no newbie to self tanning, I know how to apply them!).
So you first timers out there, be EXTRA careful applying this one.
How Long It Lasts
This product lasted about 3-4 days which is about average.
It didn’t fade splotchy due to the light color it produced.
OK For Men?
No, I think men would be scared off just by looking at the thick, dark product.
From my experience, men don’t have the patience for messy self tanners, and this is definitely a messy one.
Guys- I’d steer clear of this product if I were you.
Price
$38.95 for an 8 oz bottle is pretty expensive, but the total ends up being over $50.00 after shipping and taxes! Which is just ridiculous in my opinion.
