Overall Opinion:
St. Tropez recently launched this Whipped Marshmallow Mousse, and I couldn’t wait to try it! Overall, I liked it, but it didn’t really stand out in any areas. It’s a good mousse, but not great. I’d definitely use it again in a pinch, but it’s not going to be my new go-to.
So, to start off with, the packaging is very cute. It’s pink and white and very girly. The mousse comes with a blue, velvety tanning mitt, which is also great!
This marshmallow mousse smells great; it applies easily and gives a pretty nice color. I do wish it was a little bit darker of a tan though.
For the cons, it is SO sticky, and it’s very expensive.
Also, since this is called a “Marshmallow” mousse, I was expecting this to be a fluffy, white mousse with a marshmallow-like texture. I was wrong. This is a brown mousse that much resembles their original mousse. They include a marshmallow extract in this mousse, and that’s where it gets its name. Confusing, I know.
So after using this mousse, I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
This St. Tropez mousse has a light, airy, foamy texture, as do most of their mousses. The foam holds its texture nicely and isn’t watery.
This marshmallow mousse has a brown color to it, which kind of confused me. Being a “whipped marshmallow” mousse, I expected it to be white!
Application
When you purchase this mousse, it comes with a mitt. I honestly love the mitt. It’s really soft and velvety and feels really high end. It’s also really convenient because I was going to use a mitt anyways to apply it.
This mousse goes on similarly to the regular St. Tropez mousses. You can kind of see where you’re applying it, but the mousse doesn’t go on as dark as some mousses. So you do need to pay pretty close attention while applying this one to ensure you don’t miss any spots.
It’s easy to blend in, and not very messy if you use the mitt. I didn’t have any issues with the application process.
Drying Time
This is another typical St. Tropez Mousse that is very sticky. Once applied, it takes about 40 minutes to dry on your skin. In the meantime, it feels extremely sticky and tacky to the touch.
I kind of expected this though, because I know mousses are stickier in general. That’s just the nature of the mousse game ;)
Smell (Before Application)
St. Tropez Whipped Marshmallow Mousse has a different smell than their regular mousses. The scent is “limited edition” and it smells really good!
It’s extremely sweet smelling. I really enjoy the scent of this product, whereas I normally don’t care for the scent of St. Tropez products.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
The next morning I could smell a little bit of DHA mixed in with the sweet smell, but it wasn’t horrible.
Color Produced
The directions say to leave this self tanner on for 4-8 hours in order for it to develop. I left mine on for 8 hours overnight.
When I woke up, I looked pretty dark, but the color guide accounted for a lot of that darkness. After I showered off the guide, I was left with a medium tan. I liked the way my tan looked; it was pretty natural looking. But I do wish it was a little bit darker.
The color is a little on the orange/yellow side, but on my skin tone it worked. For those of you with pinker undertones, you may not like this color as much. But if you’re looking for a medium shade tan that looks natural, it’s worth a shot!
How Long It Lasts
Unfortunately, my tan only lasted 2-3 days before I felt like I needed to reapply. I wish this tan lasted a few days longer. It faded pretty unevenly as well; I looked very splotchy and my skin looked dry.
OK For Men?
Yes, if you’re looking for a medium shade tan, this one is a pretty good option.
Price
St. Tropez Whipped Marshmallow Mousse is very pricey at $45 per bottle. That’s more than your average self tanner on the market.
