Overall Opinion:
I ended up giving St. Tropez Self Tan Luxe Dry Oil 5 out of 5 stars… so I think it’s one of the better self tanning products out there!
I was so excited to try this one because it’s so unique in that it’s in the form of a dry oil.
I’ve never seen a self tanning dry oil before.
I’m a huge fan of using dry oil to prolong my tan and moisturizer my skin. So making a dry oil self tanner sounds like a good idea to me.
This product didn’t disappoint either…
The application was pretty easy (just be careful because the consistency is thin). There’s a brown, shimmery guide in it, which makes your body look really nice after you apply it.
The next morning after I washed it off, I had a nice medium shade tan. It was very smooth and natural, I loved the way it looked.
It smelled like citrus with a bit of an herbal smell, it was a very pleasant smell.
It lasted about 4-5 days which is pretty good, and it didn’t get streaky or scaly as it faded.
After using it my skin felt so supple and soft because the dry oil is very moisturizing.
They claim your tan will last 10 days and you will be moisturized for 7, however I would say both of those are over exaggerations.
I also don’t like how expensive this is. It’s $50 for a 3.38oz bottle… YIKES!!
Despite the fact that this is one of the most expensive self tanners out there, I really do think it’s one of the best.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
St. Tropez Self Tan Luxe Dry Oil is an oil, so it comes out very thin (almost watery).
This oil is a bronze color, so it has a guide in it. It’s also shimmery and has a glowy look once applied to your skin.
Make sure you shake the bottle before applying!
Application
Applying this dry oil is pretty easy.
It’s very watery so be careful, you can use a mitt if you’d like to.
I used my hands, and just poured a little amount at a time. It goes on smoothly and is very easy to blend in.
The guide isn’t very dark, but you can tell where you’re applying the product because it has a shimmer to it.
Drying Time
This one dried pretty quickly.
It was dry in under 15 minutes. The dry oil is very light and thin, so it’s not like a regular oil that feels slick. This one felt smooth and velvety, I think that helped it dry quicker.
What I also loved is that it didn’t feel sticky or “wet” while I was waiting for it to dry.
Smell (Before Application)
This dry oil smells very strongly of citrus.
I couldn’t smell any DHA which was great.
All I smelled was citrus, and a bit of an herbal smell. I really enjoyed the scent, and it grew on me the more I smelled it.
To me the smell is very relaxing, and spa-like.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
When I woke up I could smell a little bit of the citrus scent, but no DHA…woohoo!
The citrus scent was definitely lighter than the night before, but I could still smell a hint of it.
Color Produced
I didn’t expect to get very good results from this, seeing as it is an oil and I didn’t know what to expect.
Immediately after I applied it my skin looked shimmery and bronze. 8 hours later I had a nice, smooth tan.
After I showered, the guide and shimmer came off and I was left with a medium/dark tan.
I’d say it was a darker medium shade, and it looked SO nice.
It was so smooth and not streaky at all.
My skin also felt very moisturized and nourished.
I loved the way my tan looked, I even got compliments on it.
Plus I loved the way my skin felt the next day, so silky smooth.
How Long It Lasts
This one claims to last for 10 days, which I don’t think is true. I have yet to find a self tanner that will last that long.
But it did last a good 4-5 days, which is longer than I can say for a lot of self tanners.
It faded very evenly, not splotchy or orange looking at all.
You’ll probably need to apply this one 1-2 times a week in order to maintain your medium tan.
OK For Men?
The only reason I don’t think men will like this is the shimmer aspect.
The shimmery look makes this seem more like a women’s product to me.
Price
This one is VERY expensive.
The 3.38 oz bottle is $50!!
That works out to $14.79 per ounce, which is one of the most expensive self tanners I’ve seen.
But if you have the extra money, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
