Overall Opinion:
I was hoping to like He-Shi Face and Body Tanning Gel.
This company is based in Europe, but there are a few online websites that ship to the USA.
The price is right and the packaging is nice, but this product really fell short in my opinion.
The first thing I noticed was how dark the guide is. It was literally almost black, it’s probably the darkest guide I’ve seen.
The product went on smoothly, and I liked the way it felt. Just make sure you use a tanning mitt when applying it. I made the mistake of not using one and my palms turned green.
This gel never completely dried. It was over 45 minutes before I felt like I could get dressed, and I still felt very sticky.
I think the fact that it never really dried is why my tan turned out so streaky.
I woke up and had splotches of really dark and really light skin all over my body.
I was actually surprised with how uneven my tan was. It sucks it was so streaky, because the color was a nice medium shade.
The tan ended up lasting about 3-4 days. I tried to scrub it off before then, but it wouldn’t come off.
This is one that I wish faded faster than it did.
Overall, I wasn’t very impressed with this self tanning gel.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
He-Shi Face and Body Tanning Gel is a dark brown (almost black) gel.
The gel is very slick and smooth, you can definitely tell it’s a gel by its slimey texture.
The guide is very dark, it looks almost black.
Application
I made the mistake of not using a tanning mitt to apply this gel.
I’d say a tanning mitt is an absolute must when you apply this one.
The guide is so dark, it left my hands looking a yellowish/greenish color.
Application can be messy because the guide is almost black, so make sure it doesn’t touch anything except for your skin.
The gel was easy to blend in because it was so slick, and kind of just glided over my skin.
The guide was just way too dark for my liking.
Drying Time
This one took forever to dry!
It took at least 45 minutes, and after that I still felt sticky.
When it comes to self tanners, I hate feeling sticky while I dry and this is one of the stickiest I’ve ever felt.
I went to bed still feeling sticky whenever my body parts would touch each other.
I don’t really know if this product ever fully dried, as when I woke up my legs still felt sticky when they touched each other!
Smell (Before Application)
At first I thought I liked the smell of He-Shi Face and Body Tanning Gel.
However, the longer I applied it, the more I smelled DHA….and the more I didn’t like the smell.
There’s a very slight perfume smell, but I mostly just smelled DHA. The DHA wasn’t the strongest I’ve smelled, but it was definitely there.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
When I woke up the next morning the smell of DHA was completely gone.
I couldn’t smell any perfume either.
Color Produced
When I saw my tan the next morning I was shocked, I was so streaky!
My legs looked awful, I had patches that were a few shades darker than the rest of my body.
I think this had to do with the fact that the product never completely dried. It must have gotten messed up in the middle of the night by my legs touching each other. I’ve never seen streaking this bad.
After I washed the product off, those streaks were unfortunately still there.
The tan was a medium shade ( I tried the medium shade). I actually liked the color of the tan, so it’s to bad it was so messed up.
I went and got a pedicure the day after trying this and I was so embarrassed to show my legs because they looked so weird.
How Long It Lasts
He-Shi Face and Body Tanning Gel lasted about 3-4 days, which is about average.
With this one, I actually wish it faded faster because the color looked so streaky.
Overall, it faded evenly, but the streaks were still very visible.
OK For Men?
No, I doubt men will like this one.
The guide is very dark, and can be very messy.
The product also never fully dries and feels very sticky.
And to top it off, the color was so splotchy and uneven.
Price
The price of this one was pretty average.
It worked out to $4.74 per ounce.
That’s a great price point for a good product, this one just wasn’t up to par.
