Overall Opinion:
I really don’t like much about this self tanner, so I gave it 1 out of 5 stars after trying it.
This self tanner is unique in that you only need to leave it on for one minute before washing it off. I don’t think this is enough time at all, because after using it for a few days, I saw no color at all.
The smell is also not pleasant, and the texture is very hard to work with. This is one of the thickest, stickiest self tanners I’ve tried. It feels like glue as you’re applying it.
I like that you only need to leave it on for one minute, but unfortunately it just doesn’t work. I’d rather leave my tanner on overnight and actually see some color the next morning.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
St. Tropez Gradual Tan One Minute is a mousse, but it really doesn’t feel like your average mousse. It’s VERY thick, and kind of feels like glue instead of an airy, light mousse. It’s white in color, so there is no color guide to see on your skin.
I couldn’t get over how “pasty” the mousse felt; it was literally so thick and hard to blend in.
Application
I had a really hard time applying this self tanner. It’s SO sticky and thick, which makes it very difficult to blend in.
Overall, it probably took me over twenty minutes just to apply it, which is a long time.
I tried both using a mitt and not using a mitt to apply it, and I think it’s actually a little easier to apply this one without the mitt. The mitt seemed to get stuck on my skin while applying, due to the sticky texture of the product.
But if you use your hands to apply, make sure to wash them thoroughly after you finish.
Drying Time
You only need to leave this self tanner on for one minute after you apply it, and thank God because it is SOOO sticky.
It felt like I had glue stuck all over my body after I applied it. It’s probably the stickiest self tanner I’ve ever used.
Smell (Before Application)
St. Tropez Gradual Tan One Minute has a really strong smell. It smells like a gross perfume mixed with DHA. I really don’t like the smell of this mousse, it’s so heavy.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
Thankfully I got to wash this one off in the shower after only one minute. After I washed if off, I could still smell a little bit of the smelly DHA and perfume though.
Color Produced
This St. Tropez self tanner is different than most in that you only need to leave it on for one minute before washing it off. Most self tanners you at least need to leave on an hour before washing off.
So you apply it, leave it on one minute, than wash it off and wait 8 hours for the color to develop.
I showered it off right before bed, and then went to sleep.
When I woke up in the morning, I was no darker than the day before. I figured I needed to apply a few more days in a row because it’s a gradual self tanner. But unfortunately, even after a few applications, I saw no color. I think that one minute is just too short to leave the product on. It doesn’t give the product anytime to adhere to the dead skin cells (which is how self tanners work).
So for me, this product didn’t work at all. I saw no tan after a few days, and it appears others feel the same judging by the reviews I read.
I also found that I went through the bottle pretty quickly. I only got about 3-4 full body applications out of the bottle.
How Long It Lasts
I didn’t get any tan at all, so it’s hard to say how long it lasted.
OK For Men?
No, men won’t like this self tanner because it doesn’t work.
Price
St. Tropez Gradual Tan One Minute is $5.00 per ounce, which is pretty average. But I wouldn’t pay that again for this self tanner.
