Overall Opinion:

Overall, I give St. Tropez Extra Dark Mousse 3.5 out of 5 stars.  So I like it, it’s definitely better than average; however it’s not the absolute best on the market.  And honestly, I think I still prefer the St. Tropez Dark Mousse to this one.  They’re really not that different, even the color is very similar; the dark one just fades better.

But anyways, my tan was a dark, brown color, which I loved.  It looked so natural and didn’t look like I used a self tanner.  It was overall a pretty even tan (besides my feet which looked funky).

The smell is good, but applying it is SO messy.  It has one of the darkest guides I’ve ever seen.  After I was done applying it, I looked like a streaky mess! My husband couldn’t stop laughing at me.

The drying time was longer than I’d like, but at least it finally dried (unlike some out there).

You do need to make sure you don’t get the guide on anything as it will stain, but I have to say the color payoff this one produces is worth it.

I’d definitely use this mousse again to achieve a dark tan, but I don’t think it’s my Holy Grail ultra dark tanner.

Detailed Opinion:

Look and Feel

This mousse has the darkest guide I’ve ever seen.  It comes our looking black.  The texture is nice and fluffy, pretty easy to use.

But I have to say, I was very intimidated by the color of the mousse.

Application

You guys, applying this mousse is so messy and tedious.

The guide is SO dark, which is what makes it really messy.  And it kind of gets everywhere.  I highly recommend using a tanning mitt.  I did, and even that was messy.

The guide in St. Tropez Extra Dark Mousse is extremely dark, almost black.  But when you rub it into your skin, it turns a dark green color.  My husband was calling me the hulk after I applied this one because I looked green and scary.

The guide is also very hard to blend in, and it never fully absorbs.  So I was left looking VERY streaky, and I was worried about how that would affect my final tan.

I have to say this is one of the messiest (if not the messiest) self tanner I’ve ever tried.

If you’re new to self tanning, I wouldn’t start with this one.

Drying Time

This mousse dried in about an hour.  So that’s definitely longer that I would’ve liked to see.  And it felt very sticky on my skin as I waited for it to dry.

I was paranoid to touch anything because I didn’t wanna stain anything, and I was worried my tan would get ruined.

There’s not a lot of room for error when applying Ultra Dark products, so be very careful.

Smell (Before Application)

St. Tropez Extra Dark Mousse smells pretty good! It has a fresh, kind of clean scent.  The smell is very strong, that’s my one complaint about it. But I guess that it needs to be strong to cover up all the DHA in it.

When I applied it, I couldn’t smell any DHA.

Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)

After my tan developed, I smelled a lot more DHA than when I first applied it.

The fresh scent was still there, albeit faint.  The DHA was the overpowering smell the next morning.

Color Produced

So the next morning, I showered off and I saw SO much color come off in the shower.  I was worried I’d be left with no tan at all.

But once I got out and dried off, I was left with a dark tan.  My tan was brown, not orange at all.  I really loved the color it gave me; the color was by far my favorite thing about my self tanner.  However, I don’t know that it’s THAT different of a color than their dark self tanner.  It may be darker by one or two shades.

The color was so natural looking, it looked like I just got back from a beach vacation.

My tan was pretty even, except my feet looked pretty funky and streaky.

How Long It Lasts

My tan lasted about 5-6 days, but I have to say it looked really bad as it faded.

Usually the darker your tan, the worse it fades, so I kind of expected this.  But it still didn’t look good.  My skin looked very lizard like and scaley.

OK For Men?

Yes, if they’re looking for a dark tan.

Price

St. Tropez Extra Dark Mousse sells from $45.00 per bottle, which is super expensive.
