Overall Opinion:

You guys, I’m really let down by this self tanner.

I was really excited to find out Victoria Secret had a new self tanner, as they haven’t had one in years.  I usually love all Victoria Secret body products (they smell heavenly!), but I really don’t care for this self tanner after trying it out.

I gave it 1.5 out of 5 stars, so you can tell I really don’t like it.

It has shimmer in it, which I really don’t like.  Leave the shimmer for bronzers; what’s the point of having shimmer in a self tanner you’re just going to wash off in the morning?

Once I applied this self tanner, it never dried.  I was kept awake all night by how uncomfortable I was wearing it.  It was so tacky and sticky feeling.

To top it off, my tan sucked.  I had streaks all over my body and my tan looked so unnatural.  Everyone could definitely tell I used a bad self tanner.  My tan was a medium shade but it looked orange and really weird on me.

And the icing on the cake with this one is it gave me acne on my back and body :(

The one thing I like about Victoria Secret What Tan Lines is how it smells in the bottle.  It has a girly, tropical sent… I have yet to find a Victoria Secret product I don’t like the scent of.

But in conclusion, I wouldn’t use this one again and I recommend you steer clear of it as well.

Detailed Opinion:

Look and Feel

This product comes out looking more like a bronzer than a self tanner.  It’s a brown, bronze color with shimmer in it.  It’s kind of metallic looking, like some bronzers with shimmer are.

It feels like a mix between a lotion and a gel, but more like a lotion. It’s pretty thick.

Application

Well the shimmer definitely doesn’t make this one easy to apply.  I don’t like it when self tanners include shimmer in them.  Especially when you’re just going to wash the self tanner off the next morning; the glitter is just pointless and messy in my opinion.

The brown guide helps you see where you’re applying the lotion, and once you start to blend the product in, it becomes more of an orange color.

I’d highly recommend using a tanning mitt to apply; it will help protect your hands from both the glitter and the guide.

I had a little bit of trouble completely blending the guide into my skin as well.

Drying Time

Victoria Secret What Tan Lines literally never dried.  That’s the thing I hated most about this product.

I felt SO sticky and gross all nightlong.  I was tempted to go shower off the tanner in the middle of the night just because I couldn’t sleep.

I could hear my body parts pull apart from each other when they touched, it was THAT tacky feeling.

So this one never fully dried, and is one of the stickiest self tanners I’ve ever tried.

Smell (Before Application)

In the bottle, this one smells SO good.  (Did you expect anything less from a Victoria Secret product?)

It smells beachy and tropical.  I can’t put my finger on the exact scent, but maybe a little bit of coconut.

Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)

Once I applied it all over my body, it immediately started to stink.  When I crawled in bed with my husband, he said I smelled “weird”.

The smell became a little stronger and sourer.  I didn’t like how it smelled as it developed and the next morning when I woke up.

Color Produced

I was hoping my tan would be the redeeming quality for this self tanner, but it wasn’t.

After I showered off the next day (by the way my whole bed was shimmery the next morning), I had a very streaky and uneven tan.  My tan definitely couldn’t pass as natural looking, it looked like I used a bad self tanner, which apparently I did.

The color was about a medium shade, and it was a yellow/orange color, not bronzey.

I just couldn’t believe how uneven my tan was.  I think it’s because the product never dried, causing it to get messed up during the night.

This one also gave me body acne on my back and my neck.  I don’t know which ingredient caused it, but it didn’t mesh well with my skin.

How Long It Lasts

I had an uneven, streaky tan for about 3 days before I started to look normal again.  I was actually happy once my tan faded away, then I didn’t need to make excuses for my bad tan anymore!

OK For Men?

No way, I don’t think men will like this tanner one bit.

Price

Victoria Secret What Tan Lines is $16.50 per tube, which is a good price.  But I’d still save my money if I were you, buy one of their bras instead!
