Overall Opinion:
I give St. Tropez Bronzing Water Gel 2.5 out of 5 stars after using it.
For starters, I love the way it smells; their new tropical scent is legit. It’s also very easy and clean to apply, and a little bit of product goes a long way with this self tanner.
This tan is a bit different, in that they claim your tan will show up after only 3 hours, and then you don’t have to shower it off. You can shower it off whenever you want to.
After 3 hours, my tan wasn’t very visible, so I ended up leaving it on overnight. By the next morning, my tan was definitely more noticeable; it was a nice medium tan. Unfortunately, by night, I had streaks everywhere and it looked pretty unnatural due to the streakiness. It sucks because I really like the color it gives!
The price is on the higher side, but nothing too crazy.
Overall, I find this water gel to be pretty average so I rank it 2.5 out of 5 stars.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
This new St. Tropez product is classified as a “water gel”. So it claims to transform from a gel to water upon application.
To me, it feels like a very thin, slick gel. It’s clear in color and has no color guide. When I applied it, it did seem to become a little thinner, but I still wouldn’t say it was the texture of water.
The good thing about the texture of this self tanner is a little goes a long way with it!
Application
For me, St. Tropez Bronzing Water Gel is very easy to apply. I used a mitt to apply it even though there’s no color guide. It just makes application quicker and cleaner.
It’s also nice you don’t need to worry about a color guide when applying it that means no staining of sheets and clothes, yay!
You will need to be extra careful when applying this one though; you want to make sure you don’t miss any spots!
Drying Time
Since the consistency of this gel is pretty thin, I found it dried relatively quickly. It felt dry on my skin after 20-25 minutes, which isn’t bad at all.
The nice thing is I didn’t need to worry about it staining my clothes or bed sheets either.
Smell (Before Application)
St. Tropez has been trying a new tropical scent in some of their new releases, and I love it! I’m not a fan of their original scent, it smells terrible to me.
This scent is fruity, very girly and sweet, I really enjoy the scent of this one!
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
By the next day, the tropical smell was gone (unfortunately), and in its place was a light DHA smell.
It wasn’t the strongest self tanner smell I’ve experienced thankfully, it was pretty faint.
Color Produced
The directions say you only need to leave the St. Tropez Bronzing Water Gel on for 3 hours before your tan develops, and then you don’t even need to wash it off!
I definitely didn’t see a very dark tan after 3 hours, so I left it on and went to bed with it. When I woke up, my tan was darker than the night before. I’d say it’s a true medium tan.
I actually really liked the way my tan looked when I woke up. It was bronzy, smooth and sun kissed. Since the directions say you don’t need to wash it off, I decided to go about my day before showering it off.
Come nighttime, my tan had become very streaky. I was really confused because that morning it looked great, but by nighttime, I had huge streaks all over my body. I guess I should’ve washed it off that morning. Who knows if the streaks still would’ve shown up though?
So my recommendation is to leave the tanner on overnight, then shower it off the next morning.
It’s too bad that my tan became so uneven and streaky because I actually really like the brown color it produces.
How Long It Lasts
My tan lasted for around 3-4 days before it became very light and I felt like I needed to tan again.
This is an average time, but I do wish it lasted longer.
OK For Men?
No, I don’t think so. The tan is a really nice color but it’s SO streaky. If you can figure out how to make it smoother, than yes, I think it’s a fine option for men.
Price
St. Tropez Bronzing Water Gel is a little more expensive than average at $44.00 per bottle.
