Overall Opinion:
Philosophy Here Comes The Sun is a really good self tanner.
It goes on very easy, produces some of the better color we’ve seen, and lasts for 4-5 days.
However, we weren’t very fond of the smell once it gets on your skin. In fact, that’s what kept us from ranking this one higher.
All-in-all, this is a high-quality self tanner that most people will like, especially once they see the color it produces.
Detailed Review:
Look and Feel
Philosophy Here Comes The Sun comes out of the tube as an off-white lotion with a medium consistency. It’s a little thicker than most self tanners.
Application
Seeing that it’s a lotion, this product isn’t very hard to apply.
It goes on easy and blends in really easily- both big pluses in our book.
Now, Philosophy Here Comes The Sun doesn’t have any type of tint or color guide in it, so you have to remember where you’ve put it on to insure proper coverage. The upside of that is it doesn’t get all over your towels or sheets.
Overall, it’s really easy to apply.
Drying Time
Philosophy Here Comes The Sun takes over an hour to dry completely, which for a lotion, is about average.
In general, lotions and gels take longer to dry than sprays and mousses.
Smell (Before Application)
Right out of the tube this product actually smells pretty good. It has a light, citrusy odor that reminds us of lemons– a whole bunch of lemons!
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
After a few hours on the skin, we weren’t really digging the smell of this one.
In fact, the smell accounts for why this product isn’t ranked higher. It also seemed to pick up the smell of the latex gloves we used to apply it with.
After we washed it off the following day, most of the smell had disappeared, but a trace of it was still there.
Color Produced
We love the color this product produces, it’s a near-perfect shade of medium bronze.
In addition, the overall color came out very smooth with no orange color whatsoever.
We also didn’t notice any streaking or blotchiness.
All in all, Philosophy Here Comes The Sun produced some of the better color we saw among any self tanning product!
How Long It Lasts
This product lasted for about 4-5 days, which is pretty good among self tanning products. We also like the fact that when it did start to fade, it came off pretty smooth– we didn’t see the spots or blotchiness that many other products seem to produce.
OK For Men?
Yes, this is a good self tanner for men. The color is natural and smooth and the smell isn’t too feminine. It also doesn’t have any tint to it so it’s not messy.
Price
Philosophy Here Comes The Sun costs $26 for a 4 ounce tube. That works out to $6.50 per ounce, which is fairly expensive, although we’ve seen higher. It’s not crazy considering how well this product works.
