Overall, I ended up giving this product 3 out of 5 stars.
So it was a little better than average.
The down side to Norvell Self Tanning Gel Creme is that it smells strongly of DHA and the color is a little too light for my liking.
Overall the color was a light-to-medium tan, and even though it was on the lighter side, the color was extremely even and natural looking.
The application was very easy, as it goes on like a daily lotion and there’s no messy guide to deal with.
The product only lasts for about 3 days, which is a little less than average.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
This product’s name describes the texture perfectly.
It really does feel like both a gel and a creme.
It has the smooth slickness of a gel, yet it’s heavier than your average gel.
It’s pretty thick, and that’s where you can tell it has some characteristics of a creme.
There’s no guide in this product, it’s a creamish/white/yellow color.
Application
The Norvell Self Tanning Gel Creme is really easy to apply.
It goes on very smoothly due to the gel-like texture.
There’s no guide, so it blends into your skin very easily.
You also don’t have to worry about the guide getting all over the place which is nice.
This goes on like your average body lotion or sunscreen.
Drying Time
This one took about 30 minutes to dry, which is pretty average.
A lot of gels remain sticky on your body for much longer than 30 minutes, so I was pleasantly surprised when this one dried in about 30 minutes.
It feels wet on your skin while it is drying, but that wet feeling slowly fades away.
Smell (Before Application)
This one definitely smells like a self tanner.
If any of you have ever spray tanned, that’s exactly what this product smells like!
You can really smell the DHA in it, but there’s also another scent that I cannot place my finger on.
It smells pretty strong, and unfortunately, I’m not a fan of it.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
I could still slightly smell the DHA and self tanner on my skin the next day.
When I use spray tans, they smell AWFUL the next day, and thankfully this one isn’t as bad (but it’s still a little smelly).
After I showered the product off I couldn’t smell any trace of self tanner.
Color Produced
I wish the Norvell Self Tanning Gel Creme would’ve produced a darker color.
It gave a nice, even, natural tan… but it was way too light!
I’d say it gave me a light-medium shade tan.
This is not a gradual tanner but it’s one you’d definitely need to reapply often to get a medium-dark shade tan.
The plus side is that it’s not orange-y at all, and the color is very smooth and natural.
The color would’ve been perfect if it were just a few shades darker.
How Long It Lasts
This self tanner only lasted about 3 days, which is a little less than average.
Around day 3 the light color it gave me was pretty much all gone.
It faded naturally and I didn’t notice any streaky or splotchy parts.
OK For Men?
Men may actually like this product if they’re only looking to get a shade or two darker.
The only bad part is the smell, but that goes away once you rinse it off.
I think men will like the easy application, lack of guide, and smooth color.
But be warned, the Norvell Self Tanning Gel Creme will not get you super dark, it will only give you a light tan!
