Overall Opinion:
This product fell flat in most areas; which is the reason we only awarded it 1.5 out of 5 stars.
However, we liked the ease of application of this product, and the dry time was about average, those are the two pluses.
The smell of this product is very unpleasant, it smells like chocolate cardboard. And after you apply it, you will smell like chocolate cardboard as well.
The color produced was extremely light, I got maybe one shade darker.
I really wish it would’ve made me darker, you’ll have to reapply this one very frequently to keep any color at all.
The product faded drastically after about 2 days, so it didn’t last very long. That also could be because the color was so light to begin with.
And to top it off, Chocolate Sun Cocoa Glow Sunless Tanning Cream is $40.00 for an 8 oz bottle… that’s somewhat expensive!
In my opinion, this one just isn’t worth the high price tag.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
Chocolate Sun Cocoa Glow Sunless Tanning Cream is a thick lotion/cream.
There’s no guide in this tanner, it is a yellowy, white-looking cream that has a very thick consistency.
Because it’s so thick, when you squeeze it out of the bottle, it kind of just plops on your hand (kind of gross).
Application
The best thing about this product is how easy it is to apply.
There’s no dark guide, so you don’t have to worry about a huge mess being left behind.
But because it’s so thick, it takes a few seconds to fully blend into your skin.
It goes on just like sunscreen or your daily body lotion.
You don’t really need to wear a tanning mitt while applying, but it’s always better to be safe than sorry!
Drying Time
Chocolate Sun Cocoa Glow Sunless Tanning Cream takes about 30 minutes to dry, so it’s around average as far as drying time goes.
I thought it was going to take at least an hour to dry due to the thick consistency, but I was pleasantly surprised when it dried in around half an hour.
Smell (Before Application)
YUCK! (That’s the first thing that comes to mind when I’m reminded of the smell of this product).
It seriously smells like chocolate cardboard.
I know that’s a weird description, but that’s exactly what it smelled like to me.
I could definitely smell the chocolate, but the “cardboard” smell overpowered that and made this lotion smell really gross.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
The smell (unfortunately) lasts for hours.
I went to bed smelling like a big ol’ piece of chocolate cardboard.
Needless to say, I kept wishing the smell would fade away but it stuck with me for a while (lucky me!).
Thankfully, the next day after I showered I could no longer smell the product.
I guess if you look on the bright side the cardboard smell covered up any hint of DHA smell?
Color Produced
So I was hoping I would wake up with a dark bronze tan, and that would justify smelling awful all night long… well, I was definitely let down.
I woke up maybe one shade darker.
The tan seemed even and natural-looking, but it was barely there.
I would say this is a “very light” color self tanner, and you may have to reapply a few days in a row to get a few shades darker.
How Long It Lasts
This is another area in which Chocolate Sun Cocoa Glow Sunless Tanning Cream fell short.
This tanner laster only about 2 days, but that’s probably because the color is so light.
I went back to my pasty-white self after about day two of applying this cream.
The good thing is I didn’t fade splotchy or streaky.
OK For Men?
No, men should stay away from this one.
If the smell isn’t enough to deter them, then the color definitely will be.
This color is too light and it smells too gross to spend $40.00 on in my opinion.
Price
Chocolate Sun Cocoa Glow Sunless Tanning Cream comes in an 8 oz bottle, and sold for $40.00.
That’s $5.00 an ounce… very expensive!
$5.00 an ounce is something I would pay over and over for if the product is awesome, but this one’s not.
