Overall Opinion:
This is now my fourth Mine Tan mousse I’ve tried, and unfortunately, it’s my least favorite so far. I ranked it only 1 out of 5 stars after using it.
The color really let me down. My tan was so unnatural looking, it was yellow! I guess the “Violet” really didn’t work for my skin tone. Although, I’m still a little skeptical that all these Mine Tan mousses are completely different formulas. My tan was a medium shade, even though I left it on for 3 hours. I was hoping it’d be darker. But in this case, I’m glad it wasn’t because the color looked so weird on me.
This one doesn’t smell as good as others I’ve tried either. It says it has no scent, but that’s false. It smells like DHA, and it only goes away once the product is washed off.
It had their signature dark brown guide, and fluffy texture.
The drying time sucks, but at least the product is only on your skin for an hour (or a few).
This definitely isn’t the Mine Tan mousse for me, but I’ll keep trying the Mine Tan mousses and hopefully I find one I love!
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
This Mine Tan Violet product comes out looking like the others. It’s a mousse with a light texture and a deep brown color guide. The guide is pretty dark, so I could really see it on my skin during the application process.
Application
I found this Mine Tan mousse is pretty easy to apply. As long as you use a tanning mitt, applying it shouldn’t be too time consuming or messy.
The product blends nicely into my skin, and the product holds its shape well.
The guide makes it easy to see where it’s going on your skin, but it can also get on your clothes and towels if you’re not careful.
This is definitely one of the darker color guides out there, so you really need to pay attention while applying it or it will become a huge mess!
Drying Time
Mine Tan Violet stayed very sticky on my skin during the drying process.
I kept the product on my skin for three hours total, and it was wet and sticky for well over an hour. This made it very uncomfortable, and I couldn’t wait to shower the product off!
Smell (Before Application)
Mine Tan Violet claims to be unscented. I didn’t find this to be true.
Now, the scent is pretty light, but I found it had a bit of a self tanning smell mixed with something unpleasant.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
I don’t like the way this one smells as it develops. The smell lingers the entire time the product is on your skin; it doesn’t go away until you wash it off.
Color Produced
Like all Mine Tan self tanners, this one is a one-hour express mousse. So it says to leave the tanner on one hour for a natural tan, and longer for a deeper tan.
I left it on for around 3 hours, hoping for a natural, dark tan.
After I washed it off, my skin went back to looking pale, and off to bed I went. When I woke up the next morning, I was sadly disappointed with my tan. I was definitely darker, but the color was so unnatural looking! Violet is definitely not the color for my skin tone.
The color was very yellow/orange and you could definitely tell I used a self tanner. I didn’t have the sun kissed, brown glow I was looking for.
Now, for the darkness of the tan, I was dark but not nearly dark enough for my liking. It was more of a medium tan, but then again, I find that express mousses never get as dark as normal mousses.
So all in all, I’m not impressed with the color of Mine Tan Violet.
How Long It Lasts
This one lasts about 3-4 days on my skin.
As it faded, it became a little patchy and weird looking, but it’s hard to tell because my tan looked weird to begin with. I’d say you’ll need to reapply this one bi-weekly in order to maintain your color.
OK For Men?
Eh, I like many other self tanners (along with some Mine Tan ones) way better than this one! So no, men, I think you should pass on this one.
Price
Mine Tan Violet is $34.95 per bottle, which breaks down to $5.22 per ounce. That’s not a horrible price, but I wouldn’t pay it again for this product in particular.
