Overall Opinion:
This is now my third Mine Tan Mousse I’ve tried, and I think it’s just slightly better than average. I ended up giving Mine Tan Coconut 3 out of 5 stars.
For the things I like, I really love the smell and the color is pretty good too. Now, it wasn’t as dark as I’d like to be, but I had a medium tan that looked very natural. It was streak free and brown (for the most part).
For the downsides, it’s messy to apply and it literally never dried. I hate when self tanners stay sticky on my skin!
So it has its pros and cons, that’s why I think it’s a little better than average.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
Mine Tan Coconut comes out very dark. It has a super brown guide, that can even look a little green/grey in some lighting.
The mousse is bubbly and airy, and it’s on the thinner side. So it’s a little more watery than a lot of mousses out there.
Application
The color guide in this one is so dark, you absolutely have to use a mitt or gloves to apply it.
Even then, I found it was a little hard to apply, because it’s pretty thin. The guide helped me to see where I was applying it, and it blended in nicely. The only issue I had was it seems to melt kinda fast, making it watery.
That caused it to drip on my towels and floor, which is always a pain to clean up!
Drying Time
Mine Tan Coconut is a “1 Hour Express Tan”, so you need to leave it on anywhere from 1-3 hours depending on how dark you’d like to be.
I left it on 3 hours and I felt wet and disgusting the whole time. So this is your typical sticky mousse that never really dries.
I hate the feeling of having sticky product on my body, so I was really uncomfortable leaving it on for 3 hours. At least I didn’t have to leave it on overnight though.
Smell (Before Application)
Mine Tan Coconut smells really good during application. It has a yummy coconut smell. It reminds me of a tropical beach, I love it J
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
Now, the good smell unfortunately didn’t last. By the end of the 3 hours I had the product on, I could smell some DHA mixed with the coconut. It still didn’t smell horrible, but it just didn’t smell AS good as it did initially.
Color Produced
So, like most Mine Tan products, this is a 1 Hour Express Tan. The directions say to leave it on for 1 hour for a “natural tan”, or you can leave it on longer for a darker tan. I left it on 3 hours before I showered it off.
When I showered it off, I saw a ton of brown washing down the drain (which was obviously the guide). I think I got out of the shower and looked no more tan than I was before I applied. After showering, your tan will continue to deepen for 24 hours.
I then went to bed, and when I woke up 8 hours later, I had a natural looking tan. It wasn’t super dark, I’d say more of a medium tan, but it looked really nice. I’m glad I left it on for 3 hours though, if I only left it one for one, my tan would’ve been really light.
If you’re looking for a very noticeable, deep tan I don’t think this is the one for you. But if you’re looking for a medium shade tan that looks really even and natural, I think you may like this one.
The color (although not dark enough for my liking) was still very smooth and sun kissed. I found on my skin the color was mostly brown, with a hint of orange. I know Mine Tan claims all their formulas produce different shades of tan, but I haven’t noticed a big difference between them yet.
I didn’t have any streaking either, which is always a plus!
How Long It Lasts
My tan lasted about 3 days, so you’ll need to apply this one bi-weekly to maintain your color.
One unfortunate thing about this mousse is it dried my skin out, especially on my legs. They looked funky as my tan faded due to the dry skin.
OK For Men?
Men may like this one, however I still prefer Mine Tan Original over this one (along with many other self tanners).
Price
Mine Tan Coconut is $34.95 per bottle, which works out to $5.22 per ounce. That’s a little more expensive than your average self tanner.
