Overall Opinion:
Sadly, this mousse missed the mark for me in many ways.
I love Fake Bake’s spray self tanners. They have some of the best sprays on the market. But, I’ve been very under impressed when it comes to their mousses. I’ve now tried two of them, and don’t like either.
This one has some major issues. For starters, application takes forever due to the texture, and the fact that it’s very hard to blend in.
This mousse has a very different texture than most; it feels more like shaving cream than a light, fluffy mousse.
It also feels sticky for over an hour once I apply it. This is one of my pet peeves (as you guys know). I just feel so uncomfortable, like I’m sweating or something.
The real kicker is, that after all that, the color sucks. It’s so light, I feel like my whole tan washed off after my first shower. I also had streaks all over my entire body (which I think is from the stickiness of the product).
The smell is fine, and so is the price, but those two things aren’t enough for me to purchase or use this one again.
So I gave Fake Bake Mousse 1.5 out of 5 stars after trying it.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
Fake Bake Mousse comes out looking like a light grey/tan colored shaving cream. It doesn’t have the same texture as most mousses, which are bubbly and airy.
This mousse is dense and the best way I can describe it is it looks exactly like shaving cream.
Application
The light grey color of this mousse doesn’t look like it’d act as a color guide on your skin. But surprisingly, it does. Once I applied it to my skin, the color instantly darkened, making it so I could see where I applied it.
I found this one very difficult to apply. It’s hard to spread on your skin, and it seems to stick to certain areas. It’s almost like it dried too quickly to blend in, but the product stayed sticky forever, so it was a weird phenomenon.
I’d highly recommend using a tanning mitt to apply this one, and set aside a good amount of time for application. It took me over 40 minutes to apply all over, and it usually only takes me 15.
Drying Time
Even though it seemed this one was drying quickly (because it didn’t spread easily on my skin), it stayed sticky for so long! I could feel it on my skin for over an hour. I hate when my body parts touch each other and feel sticky and gross.
Smell (Before Application)
It smells pretty good; just know that the smell is very strong.
It smells like perfume mixed with laundry detergent. So the smell is a little bit fresh and a little girly. I wish it wasn’t as strong as it was, but at least it smells better than DHA.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
It didn’t smell as good the next morning. It smelled of DHA mixed with some laundry detergent. So yes, I’ve smelled worse, but I wouldn’t consider this smell pleasant.
Color Produced
This is where Fake Bake Mousse really let me down.
After I showered off the guide the next day, I was left with almost no color at all. It’s like my tan washed down the drain with the guide.
I had a very light tan (maybe about 1 shade darker), and I was streaky all over my body! I don’t know how the streaks happened, but I usually get streaks when products take forever to dry. Just due to the face that my body parts touch each other and touch my clothing.
I’m sadly disappointed in the color payoff from this mousse. I don’t think many of you will like the color from this tanner as it’s so light it’s almost not there at all.
How Long It Lasts
My light tan lasted about 2 days. It then faded away very quickly, which I’m thankful for because I couldn’t wait to get rid of those streaks!
My skin got pretty dry as the tan faded too.
OK For Men?
Nope, I don’t think men will like the hassle of this one or the final color it produces.
Price
This mousse is pretty cheap, but still not worth it in my opinion. It’s $10.95 per bottle.
