Overall Opinion:

I’m very disappointed in this self tanner.  Many of you requested I try it, and the packaging is so cute, so I was excited.

Unfortunately, it’s one of the worst self tanners I’ve tried.  I had to wear long pants and shirts to cover my tan in the middle of summer!

My tan was the streakiest I’ve ever seen.  It sucks, because the color was a pretty deep color too, so if it were an even tan it would’ve looked nice.  I think the lack of guide and the application process just make this one so hard to apply even.  I’m a veteran when it comes to applying tanner, and this one was even difficult for me!

The scent and the drying time are just okay.

Another thing I don’t like is they include color dyes in this product.  It’s okay to do so if you’re doing so to provide a color guide.  But Isle of Paradise Water doesn’t have a color guide at all.  They’re literally putting dyes in it for no reason other for it to look pretty in the packaging.

So overall, I’m not impressed with this self tanner at all.

Detailed Opinion:

Look and Feel

This self tanner is in the form of a clear liquid.  (It has a light purple hue when in the bottle.)  It has a pump spray application (not continuous mist).

The product has no guide in it, so you can’t see it when applying to your skin.

Application

This self tanner creates a mess during application.

I applied it in my shower (as I do with all sprays).  This one has a pump nozzle, not a continuous mist. I honestly prefer continuous mists, because they’re easier to use and don’t hurt your fingers as much. Sometimes my fingers get tired from pumping the spray all over my body!

Also, so much product fell to the ground while applying this one; it was SO messy. I ended up standing in puddles of self tanner, which in turn stained the bottoms of my feet!  You can stand on a towel, which may help a little bit, but this one literally gets everywhere.

The directions say to mist the product over your entire body, and then blend it in with a mitt, which is exactly what I did.

I found it very hard to apply to my back, because you need to turn the bottle upside-down, and in doing so the bottle became clogged. It clogged like 4 times and it became so frustrating and very annoying.

Drying Time

Once applied, Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Water takes about 30-35 minutes to dry.

The drying time isn’t the best, but not the worst either.

Smell (Before Application)

This self tanning water has a very strong, perfume-like scent.  It kind of smells more like a hair product to me than a self tanner.

I didn’t really mind the smell; it definitely smells better than DHA.  But in my opinion, it’s a bit too strong.  Those of you who are sensitive to scents won’t care for it.

Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)

After my tan developed, I couldn’t smell any more perfumey scent, only a little bit of DHA smell lingered on my skin.

Color Produced

I tried this self tanner in their dark shade. All I have to say is wow, I am totally shocked with how bad my tan looked after using this one!

I’m one of the most experienced self tanners out there; I try a new one out every week (and have done so for years).  My tan looked SO streaky and so bad.  I had to wear jeans and a long sleeve t-shirt in the middle of summer! I was so embarrassed to leave the house, much less go in public.

My whole body had streaks all over, and not just little streaks.  We’re talking huge, noticeable streaky areas. Here is an example of what one of my arms looked like, and this isn’t even as bad as my legs!

I was so upset with how my tan looked. I really wish it were more even, because the color was dark and nice looking. But I don’t really have anything else good to say about the color because my tan was so jacked up.

My tan looked like I was a newbie applying self tanner for the first time ever.

How Long It Lasts

My tan lasted about 6-7 days.  Of course this one lasted so long when I wanted it to fade!

OK For Men?

No, run far away! It’s so hard to apply and my tan was so uneven and streaky.
