Overall Opinion:

As far as express mousses go, this is one of the better options out there, especially for the price.  I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars after trying it out.  It’s very good, but it’s not without its flaws.

For starters, this one dries very quickly, which is great!  But you need to work quickly when applying it.  I loved that I didn’t feel sticky the entire time I had it on, that’s one of my pet peeves!

It also smells pretty good; it has a very clean, refreshing scent.

I left the tanner on my body for 1.5 hours before washing it off.  I then let the product develop overnight and woke up with a light to medium tan.  My tan looked very nice and I didn’t have any streaks.  The color was natural, no orange or yellow to it!

If you look up this product online, you’ll see a lot of bad reviews.  But if you read them, it’s because these people don’t know how 1 hour tans work!

The main thing I don’t like about this mousse is how messy it can be to apply, and I was left looking like a freak after application.  It looked so streaky and dark after I applied.  Thankfully, that didn’t translate into a streaky tan after I washed it off.

I also think this one contains a lot of chemicals.  (I don’t recognize a lot of ingredients in it.)  I like when self tanners try and include good ingredients to help nourish your skin.  This one doesn’t have that.  But what can you expect for the cheap price tag?

But overall, this mousse is pretty good so I give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Detailed Opinion:

Look and Feel

This St. Moriz product is a foam that has a very foamy texture.  It’s not runny or watery at all.  I really like the texture; it made it easy to apply.

The color of the foam is a very dark brown color, and it goes on your skin looking SO dark and ridiculous.

Application

I used a tanning mitt (as always) to apply.  I highly recommend this with this product, as the guide is so dark.  It will absolutely cause a mess if you don’t use a mitt when applying. To be honest, the guide is pretty intimidating with this one.  It’s SO dark!

Even with a mitt, this one can get pretty messy just due to how dark the guide is.

I found the mousse holds its shape really well, which makes it easier to apply.

This one goes on SO dark, so you can really see where you’re applying it. You have to work relatively fast because the mousse dries in a few minutes (which I like).

As with a lot of mousses with dark guides, this one looks streaky when you apply it. But not to worry, as long as you apply evenly, your tan should turn out just fine.

But in full disclosure, I looked super weird and freaky when I was done applying this one!

Drying Time

I’m actually very impressed with how quickly St. Moriz Darker Than Dark 1 Hour Fast Tan dries.

It dried in less than 5 minutes once I applied it, which is amazing!  Most express mousses stay sticky the entire times I have them on my body, so I’m glad this one is an exception to that.

Smell (Before Application)

The scent of this mousse is very clean and fresh.

It smells kind of like laundry detergent (in a good way).  The smell is pretty light, but it lasts on your skin for a while.  I like that it’s not too overpowering, but still does a really good job covering up any DHA smell.

Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)

This is a 1 Hour Fast Tan, so you need to leave it on anywhere from 1-3 hours.  I left mine on for 1.5 hours and the smell was pretty good the whole time.  I just had that light, fresh smell on my skin until I washed the product off.

By the time the color had developed the next morning, I couldn’t smell anything on my skin.

Color Produced

St. Moriz Darker Than Dark is a 1 Hour Tan.  A lot of people don’t seem to know how 1 hour tans work, so I’ll explain.

You apply the product, and then wait anywhere from 1-3 hours before washing the product off (just depending on how dark you’d like your tan).  After you wash it off, your tan won’t have developed yet. It will then take the normal 6-8 hours to develop. So yes, the name 1-hour tan can be a bit misleading.

I always see these “Express tans” getting a lot of reviews by people who don’t know how the product works. They think after they shower the product off they’ll have their tan, which just isn’t the case.

Ok, so back to the color I got from this one… I left it on about 1.5 hours so I was expecting a light to medium shade tan.  That’s exactly what I got.

I woke up the next morning and had a nice tan that was a light to medium shade.  I wish it was darker, but I can’t really complain because I only left the product on for 1.5 hours.  If I ‘d left it on for 3 hours, my tan would’ve been darker.  Although, I don’t think it’d ever get dark enough to call it an “Ultra dark” tan.

My tan was even and streak-free, which is always very important.  The color was a nice shade; it didn’t have any orange or yellow undertones.

So as far as express mousses go, the color this one produces is pretty good.

How Long It Lasts

I found my tan lasted about 3-4 days before it was gone.  So this is one you’ll need to apply twice a week to maintain your tan.

OK For Men?

Yes, if you’re looking for a 1 hour tan; this one is pretty good.
