Overall Opinion:

Maui Babe Amazing Sunless Tanner isn’t exactly amazing in my opinion.

After trying it out, I ended up giving it 2 out of 5 stars, so it’s not even an average self tanner.

It has two positive things going for it, the price and the smell.  This sunless tanner is extremely cheap; you can’t beat the price at $8.48.

It also smells really delicious, like coconut!

But the color is just not up to par, and the product is extremely messy to apply.

I got a very dark tan after one application, but my tan was nowhere near natural looking.  It looked dirty and patchy.  It kinda looked like I slathered brown paint on my body rather than lay in the sun for a few days.

Maui Babe self tanner is also difficult to apply because it dries so quickly.  It’s really hard to blend the guide in when it literally dries as you’re applying it.  That makes it really messy and a pain to put on.

So overall, I wouldn’t purchase this one again, and I think there are better options out there.

Detailed Opinion:

Look and Feel

This self tanner is extremely thick, and very dark in color.  The color guide is almost black; the product looks like mud coming out of the bottle.  The guide is one of the darkest I’ve seen.

The texture is extremely thick, even thicker than most body butters out there.

Application

Applying Maui Babe Amazing Sunless Tanner is very messy and time consuming.

Like I mentioned, the product is very thick, and it really requires some elbow grease to apply it.  It’s literally like rubbing black mud all over your body.

I don’t think you’ll be able to apply this one without a tanning mitt as it will become so messy.  So a tanning mitt or latex gloves are a MUST when using this lotion.

The guide is also pretty hard to blend into your skin, so I was left looking very streaky after application.

Drying Time

Despite the thickness of this product, it actually dries really fast…almost too fast. It became hard to blend into my skin because it dried as I was applying it.

So it literally dried in like 2 minutes.

The good news is I didn’t feel sticky or wet after I was finished applying.

Smell (Before Application)

This sunless tanner smells sooo good (like all Maui Babe products).

It has a sweet, tropical, coconut scent that I can’t get enough of.

Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)

After my tan developed, the tropical scent had mostly faded away and I could smell some DHA.

The smell definitely wasn’t as pleasant as the day prior.

Color Produced

When I woke up the next morning, I literally looked so dark, like I changed ethnicities over night.

After I washed the guide off, I was still very dark but a lot of the color was guide that washed off in the shower.

But my tan was about 4 shades darker, and it looked very dirty.  I still kind of looked like I had rubbed mud all over my body, or like I was playing in dirt.

I liked the darkness of my tan, but to me it just didn’t look even or natural at all.

I didn’t have a sunkissed look; it was more like I rubbed paint or something on my body.

So unfortunately, even though I got a dark tan, I’m not a fan of it.

How Long It Lasts

I found my tan lasted about 5 days before it faded.  As it faded, it became very splotchy and weird looking.

I had huge patches on my inner arms and on my neck that looked like I had a disease.  So it didn’t fade very evenly.

OK For Men?

No, I don’t think men will like the dirty look this self tanner leaves on your skin.

Price

Maui Babe Amazing Sunless Tanner is very cheap.  It’s only $8.48 per bottle, but I still wouldn’t purchase it again.
