Top 10 Ingredients: AQUA / WATER / EAU, GLYCERIN, DIHYDROXYACETONE, PEG-40 HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL, CARAMEL, COCOS NUCIFERA FRUIT JUICE / COCONUT FRUIT JUICE, PHENOXYETHANOL, PARFUM / FRAGRANCE, DISODIUM LAURETH SULFOSUCCINATE, CAPRYL/CAPRAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE
Overall Opinion:
L’Oreal is constantly adding to their Sublime Bronze range, and with this one they stayed on trend with a new “water mousse”. It seems like a lot of companies are coming out with guide-free foams as a cleaner way to tan.
I like this mousse, but it still has its drawbacks and there are others I like better.
To start, I really like the smell of this tanner; it smells really sweet and good! I also found applying it to be very easy and quick.
The color it produces is nice, but not dark enough for me. To me, this is more of a gradual self tanner, not a one and done type. After one application, I had a light to medium tan, and I wish I were a few shades darker. But for those of you looking for a more natural color, you’ll like this tan. However, make sure to apply very light on your dry areas! This one really sticks to my dry areas, making them look weird and unnatural.
Unfortunately, my tan only lasted 3 days before I needed to reapply. As my tan faded, it became a little dry and patchy, but not bad compared to most.
So overall, I give this self tanner 3 out of 5 stars.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
This is another mousse with no color guide; these seem to be all the rage right now. So it looks like water in the bottle. When you pump it out, it turns white.
The texture is bubbly and a little soapy feeling. I don’t know why, but this product reminded me of a foaming soap.
Application
L’Oreal Sublime Water Mousse is very easy to apply, and I like how clean it is due to the lack of color guide. I didn’t need to worry about it getting all over everything and leaving stains, which was nice. However, I couldn’t see where I was applying it. Which was okay with me, because I’m pretty experienced when it comes to application. I just applied it like I would my normal body lotion, and I made sure to take my time.
Although this mousse has no color to it, I still recommend using a tanning mitt to apply.
Drying Time
This water mousse takes forever to dry; I felt SO sticky almost all night! I was disappointed with how sticky this mousse is, especially being a “water” mousse you’d think it’d be lighter than most mousses.
But I’ve grown to expect mousses to be pretty sticky, and this one is no exception.
All in all, it took about 2 hours to fully dry.
Smell (Before Application)
This one says it has a “fresh coconut fragrance”. To me it didn’t smell like coconuts at all, but it does smell good. To me, it has a very girly, sweet smell…almost like a Victoria Secret product.
I couldn’t smell any DHA during the application process, which was great!
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
By the next morning, I could smell more DHA but I also could still smell the pleasant sweet smell. I was surprised by how good it still smelled after it developed.
Color Produced
L’Oreal Sublime Bronze Self Tanning Water Mousse is a Medium shade self tanner. I’ve now used this one two times and seen different results both times.
The first time I used it I had a light to medium tan, and the second time I used it I had a darker medium tan. This tanner never gets very dark, but to be fair, they don’t claim it does. They claim it will give you a medium shade tan.
With this water mousse, you may initially need two applications (back to back) to achieve your desired shade of tan.
I found my tan was very smooth looking, but it stuck to my dry areas like my knees, elbows and ankles. I made sure to moisturize beforehand, so I’m not sure why it stuck to those areas so much! Those parts didn’t look as natural as the rest of my body.
So, I do like the color this one produces, it’s just not dark enough for me personally.
How Long It Lasts
My tan lasted about 3 days before I felt I needed another application. So I’d say you’ll need to apply this one at least twice weekly to keep any color. This could be considered a gradual tanner for some.
OK For Men?
Yes, men may like it if they’re looking for a natural tan that isn’t that dark.
Price
L’Oreal Sublime Bronze Self Tanning Water Mousse is $14.99 per bottle. That works out to $3.00 per ounce, which is a little less than your average self tanner on the market.
