Overall Opinion:

There’s a lot of hype around this product and this brand right now, so I was excited to try this mousse.  Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience with it and will not be using it again.

The main thing I don’t like is how messy it is, making it so difficult to apply!  The product isn’t really a mousse; it’s more like a liquid that comes in a mousse bottle.  My bottle also got clogged halfway through application.  I was so frustrated while applying this one my husband came in from the other room after hearing my profanities!  Haha.

So beyond the terrible application process, it doesn’t smell great.  The color is okay, but not dark enough to be considered a “dark tan”.  On my skin, it also had an orange hue, which wasn’t terrible but also not the best tan I’ve seen.  I also experienced some streaking and patchiness in a few areas.

The drying time is great, and the price is fine, those are really the only things I like about this self tanner.

Unfortunately, this one didn’t meet my expectations, and I won’t be reaching for it again anytime soon.

Detailed Opinion:

Look and Feel

Isle of Paradise mousse is a very thin, watery mousse.  It had a really dark color; it almost looks black.  I was disappointed with the texture of this mousse; it made it so hard to apply. It was more of a bubbly liquid than a foam. I’ve attached a photo below of how it comes out, it’s not foamy at all!

Application

Applying this mousse is an absolute nightmare.  Halfway through applying it, the pump applicator got clogged and completely stopped working.  Then it just dripped liquid all over my bathroom (as you can see in the photos).

The dark guide literally got on everything.  It stained my towels, floor, my expensive chairs and even ruined some of my makeup it got on!  It got to the point where I couldn’t even open the cap or pump it anymore cause it just dripped all over.

The product is like a liquid and so it ended up soaking through my mitt too.

This is one of those mousses that look SO dark as you apply to your skin.  After I was done applying it, my skin looked really streaky and weird.  It was hard to blend the guide into my skin so it looked even, but a lot of mousses are like that so I wasn’t too worried.

Drying Time

I was pleasantly surprised how quickly this one dried.  It dried in about 20 minutes, which is less than most mousses, but I wouldn’t exactly consider this one a mousse.  It definitely has the texture of a liquid over a foam.  I think that’s why it dried so quickly.

I know that the “foamant” in mousses is what causes them to be sticky, and this one obviously is lacking in that department.

Smell (Before Application)

Isle of Paradise Mousse doesn’t smell great.  It smells like a mix of DHA and flowers.  Honestly, it’s not my favorite smell.

Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)

After it processed, my skin stunk the next morning.  I smelled like straight up self tanner…yuck.

Color Produced

I tried this in the dark shade.  Now, my tan wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t what I’d hoped it would be.  I was left with a medium shade tan, and it looked kind of orange.

It also really stuck to my dry areas and ended up looking patchy and streaky.  I don’t know what it is about this brand; it just doesn’t work with my skin and makes me look so streaky!  I experienced the same thing with their spray.

The color was just okay; I wish it were a little darker.  A lot of it seemed to wash off in the shower.  So, unfortunately, there was a lot left to be desired in the color department.

How Long It Lasts

This one doesn’t last very long.  My tan had mostly faded by day 3.  It also doesn’t look very good as it fades.  It becomes very dry and uneven looking.

OK For Men?

No.  I don’t think men will like the hassle of the application!  The application alone is enough to prevent me from using it again.
