Overall Opinion:
I was really excited to try this Bali Body Mousse after seeing it all over Instagram. I’ve known about Bali Body for a while now, but they only sold tanning oils to be used in the sun (which you guys know I’m not a fan of!). So I’ve never tried any of their products until now. Maybe they’re finally going away from the dangerous way of tanning into the safer method of self tanning.
After trying their self tanning mousse, I found it to be pretty average, so I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars.
This mousse is a deep brown color, and pretty easy to apply. Just make sure not to get it on anything, as it will stain!
I liked the color I got when using this mousse; it was a deep, bronze color. Unfortunately I had some streaks and my tan didn’t last as long as I’d like. I’ll need to use this one 2-3 times per week to maintain my tan, which is a letdown. I’d prefer to use a tanner once per week to get a dark tan.
This mousse also smells pretty bad; I don’t see you guys enjoying the scent. It smells really sterile, and like cleaning products. It smelled pretty nauseating once on my skin.
So overall, this one has its pros and cons. Nothing about it really stood out to me as great, so I think it’s a pretty average self tanning mousse.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse is foam with a dark brown guide. The guide is a very common color when it comes to mousses; it’s a deep brown, bronze color. This foam holds its shape well and isn’t watery, which is nice.
Application
The guide makes this mousse really easy to apply. It also blends in to my skin nicely, which makes for an overall easy application. It was very easy to see where I was applying the product due to the brown color.
The only thing you need to look out for when applying is the dark guide. Using a tanning mitt will help you keep clean, but just make sure not to drop this mousse on your floor or towels as it’ll stain!
But overall, the application is very similar to many self tanning mousses out there and is pretty simple.
Drying Time
Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse is SO sticky! Now, I expected a little stickiness, like with most mousses. But this one is exceptionally sticky and takes forever to dry.
It took a few hours before I couldn’t feel the product on my skin anymore. Maybe in the 3-4 hour range? That’s a really long time! And it rubbed off on my clothes and sheets in the meantime, which was annoying.
Smell (Before Application)
This mousse smells like household cleaner. I really don’t care for the scent of this product. I can’t really describe it other than it smells like cleaner and somewhat clinical/sterile.
That mixed with the DHA smell just isn’t a pleasant mix in my opinion.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
When I woke up the next morning, I could still smell the nasty cleaner smell, and I also really smelled DHA. I couldn’t wait to hop in the shower and rinse off this one because it stunk!
Color Produced
Bali Body Mousse states that you can shower the product off after 1 hour, or you can leave the product on for 4-8 hours for a “longer lasting darker tan”. I left mine on overnight, because I like to be DARK!
The next morning I woke up, and of course looked super dark due to the guide. After I rinsed the guide off in the shower, I was left with a dark tan. I was happy with how dark my tan was, and it looked brown and natural!
However, I did have a few streaks all over my body. They weren’t anything crazy bad, but to me they were noticeable.
So I like the deepness of this color, just wish it looked a little smoother on my skin.
How Long It Lasts
For being a dark tan, this one didn’t last too long. My tan only lasted 3-4 days before it looked like a light tan. It also looks super patchy and dry as it fades, which isn’t a good look. I looked like I had really dry, old skin.
OK For Men?
No. This one isn’t horrible, but it isn’t the best. It smells weird and doesn’t last as long as I’d hoped it would.
Price
Bali Body Self Tanning Mousse if $29.95 per bottle, which is an average price for a mousse.
