Overall Opinion:

Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Butter isn’t my favorite tanner. The product is easy to apply and dries quickly, but that’s about it!

There are a few less-than-ideal elements to consider before trying this tanning butter. Firstly, the initial odor goes away post-application and is replaced by a self-tanner scent. Secondly, the glitter in the formula is a little silly looking, and hard to get rid of, even after a shower. Third, this product is too streaky and hard to remove!

I personally don’t love this product and didn’t love my tan.

Detailed Opinion:

Look and Feel

Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Butter is a colorless body lotion.

The word ‘butter’ is a good descriptor as the moisturizer itself is much thicker than the average body lotion. It’s more of a balm or a cream.

However, once the lotion absorbed into my skin, it didn’t feel any heavier than my regular lotion. In fact, I found my skin felt a little bit drier the next day.

Application

The application is pretty straightforward. Use the lotion on clean skin and apply as you would any other body moisturizer.

Once you’ve applied it to your entire body, or your areas of choice, make sure to wash your hands since you aren’t using a tanning mitt with this product.

Drying Time

I was really surprised at how quickly Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Butter dried down. I assumed based on how thick the formula was that it would take a while to absorb, but that wasn’t the case.

After about 2-5 minutes, I was able to get dressed easily. This is the same length of time my normal body moisturizer takes to absorb, as well.

Smell (Before Application)

I absolutely loved the odor of Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Butter when I first applied it.

If you’re a 90s girl like me, then you’ll know what the old Bath and Body Works cucumber melon scent smells like, and this product is identical to that! I was in total heaven when applying it.

Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)

Sadly, the delicious cucumber-melon scent went away about 10 minutes post-application, and a self-tanner smell quickly emerged.

The scent wasn’t overpowering by any means, but it’s a pretty obvious odor when you have the lotion all over your entire body.

Color Produced

I’m really unhappy with how my tan looks after using Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Butter. The color was a nice bronze color, but it was so streaky all over!

Something I didn’t notice when applying the product was that the formula has a lot of glitter in it. I was able to get most of it off with a shower, but as you probably know, glitter can be pretty stubborn, so I was still finding chunks of it on my skin the next day. You guys know I don’t care for self tanners with glitter in them!

I would say the color is light-to-medium, not dark. I do have a few areas on my arms and legs that look splotchy, which is likely due to the lack of color guard. I couldn’t remove the streak at all either! Needless to say, my tan didn’t look great.

How Long It Lasts

The color I achieved with Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Butter lasted for about 2 days. The nice thing about this product is you can apply it daily with ease. The more you apply it, the darker your tan will become.

I didn’t want to apply it more than once, because I didn’t want to exacerbate any streaking.

OK For Men?

The initial scent that Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Butter has is pretty feminine smelling, and the formula does have a lot of glitter in it.

For those reasons, I’m tempted to say no. The tan also leaves a lot to be desired.

Price

Isle of Paradise Self-Tanning Butter is fairly priced for the amount of product you get.
