If you’re looking for an easy-to-use and affordable self tanner for your face, then Golden Star Beauty Self Tanner Facial Serum could be your match. Other than that, I didn’t love this product.
A little product goes a long way when it comes to applying it, so it’s best to start with a single pump and work your way up if needed. After 12 hours or less, I had a medium shade tan, that was nice looking but a little unnatural.
The sugar-cookie scent that accompanies this facial tanner is a bit overwhelming; I felt like a teenage girl again. Although I’ve definitely smelled worse self tanners, this one isn’t my favorite scent.
I’m happy with my results, but I don’t think it’s the best facial self tanner out there.

Look and Feel
Golden Star Beauty Self Tanner Facial Serum is light brown and has the appearance of an average face serum. However, once you apply the product onto your face, it has a texture more like facial oil.
Once the tanning serum absorbed into my skin, it left behind a sticky residue. While the product itself was dry after a few minutes, the sticky feeling hung around for about 30 minutes post-application.
Application
The application is really easy, but I wouldn’t follow their instructions on how much product to use.
While they recommend 2-3 pumps of tanning serum, I think a single pump is more than enough product. So I’d start there and add more if needed.
Other than that, you’ll apply it to clean, dry skin, and then wait 3-4 hours before applying any other products on your face.
Drying Time
This facial serum didn’t dry as quickly as I’d like. It feels more like an oil, so I expected it to take some time to dry, but it stayed sticky on my face for over 30 minutes :( This isn’t exactly ideal, when I’m wanting to go to bed.
Smell (Before Application)
Golden Star Beauty Self Tanner Facial Serum has an extremely strong sugar cookie scent. It’s definitely overpowering, and unfortunately, it doesn’t go away for multiple hours post-application.
I personally didn’t like the smell of the product, but it also didn’t have any hint of self-tanner scent to it, so that’s a positive side to the odor!
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
After a few hours, the sugar cookie scent disappeared completely. Normally when that happens, I’m expecting the self-tanner smell to kick in, but that wasn’t the case here.
It became odorless after about 3 hours of wear.
Color Produced
While I got a medium tan after one application, it wasn’t the most natural looking tan.
I’ve now tried SO many facial tanners and I definitely prefer the higher end ones to this one. You can tell the quality of the tan is just better in the more expensive products. With this one, you kind of get what you pay for. This one also, may work better for other skin tones, mine is extremely pale.
The directions say to use 2-3 pumps, but I found that I only needed one to cover my entire face.
I would use this one again, but only if I didn’t have access to my other face tanners than I prefer.
How Long It Lasts
The color I achieved lasted for 3 days, which I was perfectly content with.
When the color began to fade, it did so without any streaking or weird splotches on my skin, which allowed me to ride out the color for a day or two longer.
OK For Men?
Yes—but men might not want to leave the house with it on. The sugar cookie scent is very strong and feminine in my opinion, so that might deter some men off the bat.
However, after a few hours, this product is definitely suitable for both men and women.
Price
Golden Star Beauty Self Tanner Facial Serum is very cheap, especially given how much product you get. Furthermore, you truly only need a pump or two at the most per application, so a single bottle will last you a long time.
