Overall Opinion:

I recently tried Eco Tan Cacao Tanning Mousse, and unfortunately, I don’t care for it.

First of all, the smell is very odd and not pleasant to me.  It has a mix of coffee, blood orange, ginger, grapefruit, etc. and those just don’t mesh well together.  It smells like sour chocolate mixed with DHA.  It was even worse the morning after I applied it!

This is an “express” 1-hour tan, like a lot of mousses are nowadays.  But unfortunately, this one just doesn’t work.  The first time I applied I left it on for 4 hours and then waited overnight for my tan to develop.  I only had a very light tan after that application :( It was basically non-existent.  The next time I applied, I left it on for 10 hours overnight, so I thought for sure I’d see some color payoff.  Unfortunately, I still only had a light to medium tan.

It sucks it never got to be a noticeable tan because it was very even and natural looking.

My tan only lasted about 2-3 days before it was completely gone, which is another thing I’m disappointed about.

Not to mention, this tanner is very expensive at $40 for a 4-ounce bottle.

But I do like how clean and quickly it applies, and how fast it dried.

So, I ranked this express mousse 2 out of 5 stars.

Detailed Opinion:

Look and Feel

Eco Tan Cacao Tanning Mousse doesn’t have a dark color guide like most self tanning mousses do.  It has a very light tan color, resembling caramel a little bit.  You can’t see it as you apply it to your skin.

The mousse’s texture is nice, and it holds its form well, making it easy to apply.

Application

Since this mousse has no color guide, it’s very clean and easy to apply.  You just have to take a little extra time making sure you get all areas, as you can’t see where it’s being applied.

I used a tanning mitt, and application only took me about 10 minutes, and my hands stayed streak free.

If you’re someone who prefers having a color guide, you may not like the way this one goes on, as it goes on clear.

Drying Time

Eco Tan Cacao Tanning Mousse dried in about 15-20 minutes, which I’m pleased with.  After it dried, it didn’t feel sticky at all; my skin felt soft and smooth.

Smell (Before Application)

This tanning mousse has a very odd smell.  In my opinion, it smells like sour chocolate.  I really don’t care for the smell of this self tanner.

Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)

My tan smelled so bad the next day, I reeked.  My skin smelled terrible and I couldn’t wait to wash off the tanner!

Color Produced

Eco Tan Cacao Tanning Mousse is a 1-hour tan.  You can leave it on for as little as 1 hour for a light tan, or as many as 4 hours for a deep tan.

I tried leaving it on 4 hours to get a deep tan, and I was extremely disappointed.  My tan was hardly even a light shade the next morning.  So the next time I wore it, I left it on overnight to see how dark I could get my tan.

After leaving the tan on overnight, I had a light to medium shade tan.  So it still never got “dark”.  To me, the color payoff just isn’t there for this one.  I want to be able to leave an “express” tan on for an hour, and then have at least a light tan.  This one you need to leave on at least 6 hours for any color at all, unfortunately.

It’s a shame I didn’t see much color with it because my tan was very even and streak free, which was great.

How Long It Lasts

The staying power of this self tanner is also quite disappointing.  My tan only lasted 2-3 days before I was left with no color at all :(

OK For Men?

No, I don’t think the color payoff of this tan is good at all.  It’s also pretty smelly in my opinion.

Price

A bottle of Eco Tan Cacao Tanning Mousse is $40, which is very expensive considering the bottle is only 4 ounces! One bottle will only last 3-4 applications, and to me $40 is a lot to pay for that!
