Overall Opinion:

Unfortunately, Coola Luminizing Body Serum simply isn’t a great option for a self-tanner—at least, not if you actually want to look tan.

After two separate applications and three days of waiting, my skin looks exactly the same shade it was before using this product.

I’m bummed by the lack of results, especially since this is a more expensive self-tanner, and it’s not altogether user-friendly either.

While I’m sure Coola has many wonderful products under their brand umbrella, this one definitely missed the mark, and I can’t recommend it to anyone else.

Detailed Opinion:

Look and Feel

Coola Luminizing Body Serum has a light brown color guard to it. It’s so light, however, that it doesn’t actually serve as a guide.

While that aspect of it is a bummer, it’s really helpful in being able to go about your day after you’ve tanned since you don’t look silly with it on.

Overall, this is a super comfortable self-tanner to wear once it’s absorbed. The thickness of the tanning serum made me nervous upon application, but it actually dried quickly and wasn’t sticky at all before I washed off in the shower the next day.

Application

The instructions for applying aren’t difficult to follow, but I found this product to be more difficult to apply than others.

For starters, there’s a color guard to the tanner, but it’s a very light brown, so you can’t actually see where you’re applying the product once you begin rubbing it into your skin.

Secondly, the tanning serum is super thick—thicker than most body moisturizers. So you have to work pretty hard to rub this into every area of your body adequately—without any color guard to help guide you.

This might be easier to apply with just your hand, but I always use a tanning mitt, and found that application technique was a little more difficult.

Once you’re done applying, wait 3-4 hours for tan to fully develop (which never happened for me—but more on that later).

Drying Time

One of the biggest positives of Coola Luminizing Body Serum is the dry time! In less than 5 minutes, my skin felt completely dry and I was able to get fully dressed.

You can feel that you have a tanner on, but it’s very comfortable to wear, and you can easily leave your house with it on since there isn’t a noticeable color guard to it.

Smell (Before Application)

Coola Luminizing Body Serum was clearly going for a sweet, sugar-cookie like smell for their product. Unfortunately, that was a flop.

The product just doesn’t smell very good in general. I can’t put my finger on it exactly, but it’s not how I want my body to smell for an extended period of time.

Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)

After just 15 minutes of wearing Coola Luminizing Body Serum, it started to smell like a gross self-tanner. In all fairness, the odor wasn’t very strong, but the attempted sugar cookie smell was definitely gone.

After about 3 hours of wearing it, however, that scent went away too—thank goodness!

Color Produced

I didn’t notice any change to my skin after using Coola Luminizing Body Serum. I waited a full 24 hours after applying it to even shower, and at that point, my skin looked exactly the same.

I applied the tanner again after that shower to see if a second application would make a difference, and I still didn’t have any results.

So there was no color produced, which is a major bummer for me.

Additionally, the appearance of the actual tanner on your skin looks a bit childish since it contains a gold shimmer, which ended up looking more like random gold chunks in certain areas of my body rather than an overall shimmer as intended.

How Long It Lasts

Since I didn’t achieve any color change to my skin after using Coola Luminizing Body Serum, I have no idea how long the results lasted.

I guess the only way I can say it is that the results lasted for 0 days since they were never there to begin with. I even waited 3 days post-application to write this review, and there still hasn’t been any darkening.

OK For Men?

No. This isn’t a great product for anyone since it doesn’t produce any results.

Additionally, the gold shimmer included in Coola Luminizing Body Serum would look pretty strange on most men, so this definitely isn’t the right option for them.

Price

Coola Luminizing Body Serum is not worth the money. I didn’t achieve any results with this product, and it’s not very user-friendly either.

I wouldn’t recommend this product at any price point, but especially since this is a more expensive self-tanner, it’s just one more reason not to buy it.
