Overall Opinion:
Botanic Tree Self Tanner got 2.25 out of 5 stars from us.
It was a sub-par product, and there were some things we didn’t really like about it.
For starters, the product never completely blended into my skin. I looked like a white ghost for over 20 minutes before the product absorbed. And I wasted a lot of time and energy trying to rub the product in.
Botanic Tree Self Tanner also never dried, I was so sticky overnight and found it hard to sleep because I was so uncomfortable.
The price is average, and the color it produced isn’t bad. It just wasn’t as dark as I was hoping for. The color was a medium shade, but it was very natural looking.
It also smells delicious!
So this one has a few pros and a few cons, and I gave it 2.25 out of 5 stars.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
Botanic Tree Self Tanner is a thick white lotion. It very much resembles a body cream or body butter. It doesn’t have a guide or any color to it.
It’s very thick and emollient as well.
Application
My husband actually laughed at me while I was applying this one. The product wouldn’t blend in for the life of me, so my entire body was white! I rubbed and rubbed and couldn’t get the product to blend in. I looked like a ghost. It was very thick, which I think contributed to this problem.
The product finally absorbed into my skin after about 20 minutes, I’ve never seen a self tanner take that long to rub in before.
You don’t need to use a tanning mitt while applying this one, but you do need to set aside a good chunk of time as it takes forever to apply! You’ll also need to put a little elbow grease into the application process, so it becomes quite exhausting.
Drying Time
Botanic Tree Self Tanner was sticky all night. It wasn’t the stickiest out there, but it never fully dried, causing me to be uncomfortable.
I really don’t like it when self tanners don’t dry on your skin.
When I woke up the next morning, I could still feel the self tanner on my skin.
Smell (Before Application)
This self tanning lotion smells so good.
It smells like a Bath & Body Works product; I think sweet pea in particular. It’s very girly, sweet and strong.
I couldn’t smell any DHA at all while applying it.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
While it developed, I could smell a little DHA trying to come through, and by the next morning I smelled more DHA.
It still smelled better than most self tanners, however.
Color Produced
The next morning I had a medium shade tan.
I was pretty happy overall with my tan and how it looked. It was natural, but not too dark. I honestly wish it was a shade or two darker, but for a medium tan it wasn’t too bad.
I didn’t have any streaks, except for a few little ones on my upper thighs, I guess I should’ve waited longer to put my clothing on.
The tan was a little more yellow than brown, but on my skin tone it looked natural. At least it wasn’t orange!
Those of you who are looking for a noticeable, deep tan will probably want to look for a different tanner as this one is natural and not super dark.
They also provide a Pre tan exfoliator (in the package I bought off Amazon). I used this before I applied it, and I had a very even application.
How Long It Lasts
My tan only lasted 2-3 days, so that was a big let down for me.
I wish it at least lasted another 2 days.
OK For Men?
Eh, I’m mixed on whether guys will like it or not. I definitely think there are better self tanners out there.
Price
Botanic Tree Self Tanner is $24.90 per bottle, which is a very average price point.
