Overall Opinion:
Tarte Little Mist Sunshine is better than your average self tanner, so I gave it 3 out of 5 stars.
It has some things going for it such as, it doesn’t have a color guide so it’s clean compared to some self tanners. I love that it didn’t get all over my sheets and my bathroom.
It also produces a really nice color. After one application, I had a light to medium shade tan that looked like I spent a few hours in the sun. It doesn’t produce the darkest color, but the color it gives is very natural and sun kissed. I’d consider this mist more of a gradual self tanner.
It doesn’t have much smell at all, which I like. I enjoyed not smelling DHA as I slept or in the morning when I woke up!
As for the negatives… I found this self tanner difficult to apply. I think I got a faulty applicator top or something, because the mist was very weak and just trickled out. Thankfully, they provide a tanning mitt as well, so I sprayed the mist onto the mist and then blended it in. I found that worked much better. But overall, it’s a pretty time consuming process to apply this one.
The price point is also on the high side. But this is a pretty good self tanner/brand, so that’s to be expected.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
This self tanner literally looks like water. It’s a clear mist with a liquid texture.
Application
I found this self tanner to be a pain to apply.
It’s a mist, but not an aerosol mist. I think I got a faulty bottle or something, because the mist that came out was SO weak. It almost just trickled out of the bottle.
At first, I tried spraying it directly onto my body (as the directions say to do), but that was very time consuming and tedious. So, I ended up spraying the product onto the mitt and then blending it into my skin. This product comes with a tanning mitt, which is really nice.
The product is easy to blend in, but it’s clear in color so you can’t see where you’re applying it. I was a little worried about missing spots, but it turned out fine. Just make sure to take your time when applying so you don’t miss any areas.
I actually really love that this mist is clear, because it didn’t create a huge mess in my bathroom, or all over my sheets.
Drying Time
It dried in about 15-20 minutes. I’m happy with the drying time; I also didn’t feel sticky while it dried, which is great.
Smell (Before Application)
This self tanner doesn’t have much of a smell as you’re applying it.
If anything, it just smells a tiny bit of DHA (but it wasn’t enough for me to notice unless I really tried).
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
The next day I couldn’t smell much either. No DHA, or fragrance, which is nice.
Color Produced
After showering off the next morning, I was left with a light to medium shade tan. I really liked the way my tan turned out; it was so natural looking.
Now, is this the darkest self tanner out there? No, it’s more of a gradual tanner. But for those of you looking for a really natural, gradual tanner, I like the color this one produces.
My tan wasn’t orange or yellowy at all; it was a real brownish shade. There were no streaks, just an even tan.
Overall, I’m very happy with my tan from this product.
How Long It Lasts
Now, my tan unfortunately didn’t last very long. It only lasted 2-3 days before I felt I needed to reapply it.
It faded pretty evenly, with just a few patchy areas.
OK For Men?
Yes, I think men may like this one because there isn’t a dark guide to worry about. Plus, it produces a nice light to medium tan.
Price
This self tanner isn’t cheap at $39.00 per bottle.
