Overall Opinion:

I was excited to try this product because I like Fake Bake products.  However, after testing it out, I’m super let down by this 5 Minute Mousse.

First off, the name is very confusing and misleading.  I thought this was a mousse that you only left on for 5 minutes before washing off.  But the name actually implies that the mousse dries in 5 minutes, which simply isn’t true. So it really works like most self tanners, where it takes 8 hours to develop.

After the 8 hours, I washed my tan off and I had a very light tan left.  It was hardly visible; I wish it was at least a few shades darker.

It also doesn’t smell as good as most Fake Bake products do.

It took hours to dry, so it was super uncomfortable when I went to bed and my whole body was sticky.

So, I’m not a fan of Fake Bake 5 Minute Mousse.  I gave it 1.5 out of 5 stars.

Detailed Opinion:

Look and Feel

Fake Bake 5 Minute Mousse has a texture that resembles shaving cream, so it’s VERY fluffy.  It has a light brown color to it, it’s almost a beige color. I really like the texture; it’s airy and different than most mousses.  It had a drier texture than most.

Application

This mousse comes with 2 latex gloves to apply the product.

I used the gloves, but I think a tanning mitt would actually be easier due to the texture of the product.

But overall, the product is pretty easy to apply.  The mousse holds its texture well, so it doesn’t melt and get all over the place.  But a lot of product comes out at once, so be careful with that.

It doesn’t really have a color guide, so you can’t see where you’re applying to your skin.  Although once you start applying, the product darkens a little bit on your skin.

I like the lack of color guide because I didn’t need to worry about it getting all over my towels and sheets.

That’s one thing this product has going for it, it’s very easy to apply.

Drying Time

Fake Bake claims this mousse dries in 5 minutes, which is completely false.  It actually takes a few hours to dry, and I felt VERY sticky while it dried.  My legs literally stuck together, it was uncomfortable.

Smell (Before Application)

Although this one doesn’t smell as good as other Fake Bake products, it still smells decent.

It smells fruity, mixed with some DHA.

Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)

By the next morning, it had that typical self tanner smell.  I could really smell the DHA all over my body, which sucked.

Color Produced

I initially bought this product thinking it was a 5 minute instant tan.  Meaning you leave the mousse on for 5 minutes, wash it off, then wait for your tan to develop.  That’s definitely not what this product is.  The name is very misleading.  It’s called a “5 Minute Tan” because they say the tan only takes 5 minutes to dry. (It takes way longer than 5 minutes to dry by the way.)

So this mousse actually works like all others.  You apply, and then wait for it to develop overnight. Although the directions never say how long to leave it on, which is really confusing.

So I left it on the typical 8 hours it takes most self tanners to develop.  By the morning, my tan looked like it had deepened, but once I showered, nearly all the color came off.  So I think what I was seeing was just the color guide.

I was left with a light tan that was about one shade darker.  I was really disappointed how light my tan was; it was barely visible.

I’m a big fan of Fake Bake products, but this one really let me down, and was my least favorite of the Fake Bake product line.

You’ll need to apply this one a few days in a row to see a noticeable, medium shade tan.  In my opinion, this one works more like a light bronzer, and I like other bronzers way better.

How Long It Lasts

My light tan lasted about 2 days before it faded.  It faded very naturally and didn’t look streaky as it faded, which was nice.

OK For Men?

No.  I don’t think men will like this self tanning mousse.

Price

Fake Bake 5 Minute Mousse is $29.00 for 7 ounces.  That’s not a bad price, but I wouldn’t pay it again for this particular product.
