Overall Opinion:
Svelta Tan Skin Perfecting Self Tanner got 2.5 out of 5 stars from us.
After giving it a try, I found it to be a pretty average self tanner.
The color it produces is okay. It’s not bad, but it’s also not great. I got a medium shade tan, but it looked kinda fake and I wasn’t in love with the color. But I also didn’t hate it…hence the average rating.
The drying time was a little longer than average, but nothing too bad.
The smell stinks. It smells way too sweet, and it smells like baked goods mixed with DHA.
Another thing I don’t like is the high price tag at $38 per bottle.
So overall, I gave this Svelta Tan Skin Perfecting Self Tanner 2.5 out of 5 stars.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
This lotion comes out looking more like a bronzer than self tanner.
It’s a very bronzy color and it has shimmer in it. It’s kind of the color of mud or clay.
It immediately bronzes your skin as you apply it.
It’s a thick lotion, and you have to use a lot of product to cover your entire body.
Application
Due to the amount of shimmer in this product and the dark guide, I’d recommend using a tanning mitt to apply it.
Other than that, it was pretty easy to apply. Although, I did feel like I had to use a LOT of product to cover my entire body. So even though it comes in a 5 ounce bottle, I don’t know that you’ll get more than 3 full body applications out of it.
Since it has a bronze guide to it, it gives your body some immediate tint, but you’re not extremely dark.
Drying Time
Svelta Tan Skin Perfecting Self Tanner dried in around 25 minutes.
I had to be very careful while this one dried, because I didn’t want to get shimmer over anything. Sometimes the shimmer is harder to get out than the self tanner!
After 25 minutes I felt ok to put on my clothing and crawl into bed.
Smell (Before Application)
When I came to bed, my husband commented on how bad I smelled.
I didn’t think it smelled AS bad as he did, but it wasn’t my favorite scent.
It smells very sweet, like baked goods. The smell resembles caramel, or cookies, and it’s not what I want my self tanner smelling like. You can also smell some DHA.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
After the tan had developed, the gross smell became more apparent.
I smelled like a DHA cookie the next morning…yuck.
I was nauseated by the smell the next morning.
Color Produced
Svelta Tan Skin Perfecting Self Tanner produced a medium shade tan on me. It was definitely on the lighter side of medium, so not very dark.
I was probably 2 shades darker. My tan was nice looking, but it wasn’t the best I’ve seen. Let’s just say it wasn’t anything “special”, but I don’t have any complaints (except that I wish it was darker).
Also, the shimmer washed away in the shower (thankfully).
It wasn’t a tan where I looked at it and thought “Oh wow, that color is gorgeous”, it looks kind of like an average self tanner on your skin.
How Long It Lasts
My tan was noticeable for about 3-4 days. You can probably make it last 4 days if you’re diligent about moisturizing, and don’t shower daily (gross, right?).
OK For Men?
No, I don’t think they’ll like this one.
The smell alone is enough to keep them away… it’s just way too sweet.
Price
Svelta Tan Skin Perfecting Self Tanner is $38.00 per bottle, which is pretty expensive.
