Overall Opinion:
I gave Sun Bum Self Tanning Towelettes 3 out of 5 stars.
I really like the convenience of these towelettes. They’re great to bring on vacation; you can just throw them in your bag and apply them within a few minutes.
The smell is nice and light with hints of a tropical smell. And you can’t beat the drying time, my skin felt dry within a few minutes!
I do wish they produced a darker tan, but the light tan I had was even, smooth, and natural looking. On my skin, it wasn’t orange or fake looking at all (probably also because the tan was pretty light). These may be better for those of you who are just looking for a light glow, not an actual dark tan. They’re also good for using to even up an existing tan, or using them as a tan extender.
But they are very expensive when you take into consideration how many of these you need to use per application. I used about 4 and I’m tiny. So you may use a whole pack for one tan (and not a dark tan at that).
So overall, these towelettes are a bit better than your average self tanner so I gave them 3 out of 5 stars.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
These are presoaked, white towelettes that are about the size of a sheet of paper.
They look like ginormous makeup wipes, only a bit thinner in texture.
Application
Applying these Sun Bum Towelettes is very easy.
I didn’t use a mitt or a glove to apply; I just took the towelette and rubbed all over my body. The thing that sucks is you’ll need a few towelettes per application. I used 4 for one application over my entire body, and I’m very small. That’s almost an entire pack! So one pack of these won’t last you long at all. I needed to use so many because they would dry out after all the product was used up.
I washed my hands after applying this self tanner and I wasn’t left with any orangeness on my hands.
All in all, application only took me a few minutes and was very easy.
Drying Time
This one dries so fast once you apply it! Within 2-3 minutes, my body felt dry and my skin felt really soft.
I love how quickly these dry.
Smell (Before Application)
Sun Bum Self Tanning Towelettes smell better than most towelettes do. They have a light, tropical smell. But I could also smell a little bit of DHA in there too. But overall, I think the smell was pleasant.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
The next day I couldn’t smell much of anything, only a little residual DHA smell. But it definitely wasn’t as strong as some.
Color Produced
Most towelettes I’ve tried don’t give a very deep tan. These were no exception. But I was pretty happy with the light to medium tan I got from using these.
My tan was even and smooth, and it looked natural. Although this tan wasn’t near dark enough for my liking, it may be good used as an extender, or for those of you who are just looking for a light tan. They also may be good for those of you who already have a tan and just want to darken it a bit or even it out.
These also may be good for those who want a little color but are in a time crunch. You can apply them so easy and quickly; they’re also perfect to bring with when traveling.
So don’t expect to get a dark tan after one use of these towelettes, but you will see a nice gradual color that looks very natural.
How Long It Lasts
My tan lasted around 3 days after using Sun Bum Self Tanning Towelettes. That’s to be expected as they produce a light tan. As my tan faded, it looked pretty good… no major splotches or dryness, which I liked.
You’ll need to re-apply these 2-3 times a week in order to maintain a tan. Good thing application is easy!
OK For Men?
Yes, but only if they’re looking for a lighter tan.
Price
$16.00 for a box of 5 doesn’t sound too bad at first. But when you take into consideration, you’ll need to use at least 3 towelettes per application, than it becomes pricey. You’ll be spending around $10 per tan, and you’ll need to use a few boxes a week to maintain. So these end up being very expensive.
