Overall Opinion:
I usually think L’Oreal Sublime Bronze products are a decent self tanning option, especially when it comes to drugstore self tanners. But this product in particular isn’t my favorite. After testing out their Tinted Self Tanning Lotion, I give it 2 out of 5 stars.
I love the price, you can’t beat it. It’s also great that this product is so readily available at most drugstores and grocery stores. But the color produced just isn’t up to par to other L’Oreal Sublime products, and other self tanners in general.
My tan was so streaky and didn’t look real at all. It was very obvious that I used a self tanner, which is a shame. It wasn’t smooth or sunkissed looking. I was also left with some shimmer on my body, which annoys me.
It doesn’t smell good, and it takes a very long time to dry.
So overall, this product isn’t my favorite, and I liked it less than average.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
This is a very thick lotion that kind of looks and feels like a gel. It’s brown in color and has sparkles/shimmer in it.
Application
Despite using a tanning mitt to apply this self tanner, I still don’t like the application process. I find products that have shimmer in them very annoying to use. The shimmer ends up getting on everything!
This one is pretty thick so it took some work getting it to absorb into my skin. I used up quite a bit of product for just one application, so with this one, a little bit doesn’t go a long way.
This L’Oreal Sublime Lotion has a color guide in it; it’s a deep caramel color. However, when I applied it, I found that the guide wasn’t as dark as I expected it to be on my skin. I actually couldn’t see it at all, so it didn’t really end up working as a guide. But I definitely could see the glitter all over my skin after I applied it!
Drying Time
L’Oreal Sublime Bronze Tinted Self Tanning Lotion is definitely a tackier self tanner.
Once I applied it, it stayed tacky to the touch for over an hour. That’s a very long drying time, and honestly I could still feel it on my skin throughout the night as well.
I’m not very impressed with how long this one takes to dry!
Smell (Before Application)
None of the L’Oreal Sublime self tanning products smell very good. They definitely smell like self tanners, with maybe a hint of citrus.
But the overwhelming smell here is DHA,so don’t expect a self tanner than smells really good.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
As the product developed on my skin, the self tanning smell became stronger.
By the next morning, the smell was pretty overwhelming and I couldn’t wait to shower it off.
Color Produced
The bottle says your tan will develop within 2-4 hours, which is false. It actually takes closer to 4-8 hours to see any color, so make sure to give this one enough time to develop. I’m not sure why the directions are so misleading.
I applied this one before bedtime, and washed it off the following morning. After washing off my tan, I had a medium shade tan, but it was very streaky. It didn’t have the smooth appearance I’ve gotten with other L’Oreal Sublime tanning products. Which is a shame, because there are a few I’ve used and actually liked the color payoff.
I tried this lotion in the deep shade, so I was expecting to have a deep tan. My tan was more of a medium shade, which is okay, but what really soured me is all the streaks I had.
I also found the color to be more unnatural looking than other L’Oreal Sublime self tanning products. I usually consider their tanning range a good drugstore option, but that’s not the case for this product in particular.
Most of the shimmer washes off in the shower, but I was left with some shimmer on my skin, and I didn’t really like that. If I want to be shimmery, I’ll just apply a body bronzer after I tan.
How Long It Lasts
My tan was apparent for around 4 days, and then it started to fade. L’Oreal Sublime Bronze Tinted Self Tanning Lotion also doesn’t fade very well.
I had streaks to begin with, but as it faded, it became more and more streaky, and just didn’t look right.
OK For Men?
No, I think there are better products out there within the L’Oreal Sublime Bronze range, and in general.
This product also has shimmer in it, which makes it less than ideal for men.
Price
A bottle of L’Oreal Sublime Bronze Tinted Self Tanning Lotion retails for $11.99, which is extremely cheap. That’s to be expected as this is a drugstore self tanner; you can’t beat the price.
