Overall Opinion:

After testing Josie Maran Argan Liquid Gold Self Tanning Oil, I gave it 3 out of 5 stars.

I consider it slightly better than average, but there is one huge drawback.  And that would be the smell.

The smell is SO strong and overpowering.  It was supposed to smell like Tahitian Vanilla, when in reality it smells like synthetic caramel flavoring.  I don’t like it when my self tanners smell like fake foods.

The color this one produces is a nice medium shade.  My tan was very smooth.  It had a yellow hue to it, but it wasn’t too bad.  I would’ve liked it to be a little darker as well, but that’s just me.

The price is high, but the bottle will last you a long time.

You can’t beat the drying time, and the application process is very easy as well.

The mitt they send with the product is amazing!

So overall, this self tanning oil got 3 out of 5 stars from me.

Detailed Opinion:

Look and Feel

This is a self tanning oil, so it’s very thin and watery in texture.

It comes out with a brown guide that looks a little orange to me.

Application

A tanning mitt comes with this oil, which is really nice.

The oil would be SO difficult to apply without it.  But with use of the mitt, application is pretty easy.

You still need to worry about the product dripping and running, because of it’s thin texture.

But it blends in smoothly, and it’s not difficult to blend in.

The mitt is awesome, and was actually my favorite thing about this product.  It’s very soft and luxurious, and it feels sturdier than most mitts out there.

You just dump a little product on the mitt, and then rub it into your skin.  I found a little product went a long way with this one.

Overall, the application process was pretty easy.

Drying Time

Josie Maran Argan Liquid Gold Self Tanning Oil dried in under ten minutes once I had finished applying it.

I didn’t feel very sticky or wet while I was waiting for it to dry either.

Smell (Before Application)

This one smells nasty!

This is also one of the main complaints I’ve seen online.

They have 3 different scents, and I tried the Tahitian Vanilla.

It smells SO fake and strong.  It doesn’t smell like vanilla at all, it smells like a very sweet, synthetic caramel.

My husband was gagging at the smell when I got into bed.

I couldn’t smell any DHA, but I almost would have rather smelled DHA than that sweet smelling grossness.

Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)

The gross caramel smell lingered all night, and actually became worse.

In the morning it mixes with DHA and it was literally unbearable.

It was one of the strongest smelling self tanners I’ve ever tried, I can only hope their other scents smell better than the Tahitian Vanilla.

The smell was so bad and strong it was nauseating for both me and my husband.

Color Produced

After using Josie Maran Argan Liquid Gold Self Tanning Oil, I had a medium, smooth tan.

It wasn’t dark, but it wasn’t light either.

I was happy with how my tan looked; it was a smooth tan that was a medium shade.

I do wish I was darker, but if you apply it one more time I think you’d have a dark tan.

The color wasn’t splotchy, I was actually pleasantly surprised by how even it was.

My tan was a little on the yellowy side, but not so much that I would say it looked bad.

How Long It Lasts

My tan lasted about 4 days before it was gone.

I wish it lasted longer, because after the first day I saw my tan getting lighter and lighter.

OK For Men?

I really don’t think men will be able to stomach the smell.  But if they can, it gives a medium glow that looks natural, and is relatively easy to apply.

Price

Josie Maran Argan Liquid Gold Self Tanning Oil sells for $38 a bottle.

The breaks down to $8.84 per ounce, which is expensive.

But I do think the bottle will last you a while, as you don’t use too much product with each application.
