Overall Opinion:
As you can tell by the rating, I wasn’t very impressed by Jane Iredale Tantasia Self Tanner.
First of all, they don’t do a very good job letting you know its a gradual self tanner, so I was confused at first.
The scent is not pleasant, it smells like lemons and DHA mixed together.
Also, this product is very expensive. And you have to apply it almost daily, so it will be very expensive to stay tan!
The color is very light, but it is pretty natural looking with no streaks which was nice.
It fades very quickly, so like I said, you’ll have to apply this product almost daily.
Overall, this product is way too pricy for what you get, and unfortunately the product just didn’t live up to my expectations!
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
Jane Iredale Tantasia Self Tanner comes out an orangey/red color (it looks like clay).
It’s texture is slick and very gel-like, although I think it’s supposed to be a lotion.
It’s a pretty lightweight gel, and it feels smooth to the touch.
Application
Application of this product kinda grossed me out.
The color is very orange, so I felt like an oompa-loompa as I was applying it.
It can get messy if you aren’t careful, so make sure to use gloves and don’t touch anything besides your body.
It rubs in like a gel, it takes a few seconds to fully absorb.
I didn’t like applying this product, the color freaked me out and I was so scared to get it anywhere!
Drying Time
Drying time was pretty average, it took about 25 minutes to completely dry.
I felt pretty sticky while I was drying as well (like most gels).
I was able to put my clothes on after about 25 minutes, and thankfully they didn’t turn orange.
Smell (Before Application)
This self tanner smells like citrus DHA.
It wasn’t a pleasant smell.
You can tell they tried to make it smell citrusy, but the DHA still overpowered that smell.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
The next day, I smelled gross.
I woke up smelling like a mix between DHA and lemons.
Color Produced
At first I didn’t know that Jane Iredale Tantasia Self Tanner is a gradual self tanner.
So I woke up the next morning thinking this color is SO light!
Once I read that you need to “build the color”, than it made more sense.
After the first application I was about half a shade darker, after 3 applications I had a very light tan.
The color was decent, but it was super light.
I’d prefer my tan to be darker, but for a light tan this color was ok.
The good thing about it being so light is I didn’t see any streaks or splotchy areas.
I was worried the color was going to be orange, as I went to bed looking VERY orange. But thankfully the guide washed off and the final color was natural. Although the guide was a pretty hard to wash off in the shower!
How Long It Lasts
This is another one you’ll have to apply almost daily to maintain your color.
After I stopped using this product, my tan faded tremendously within a day an a half.
So I’d say it lasts about 1-2 days before you have to reapply it.
OK For Men?
No, if you’re looking for a gradual self tanner there are better, cheaper ones out there.
Price
Jane Iredale Tantasia is $36.00 for a 4.2 Oz bottle, that’s pretty expensive!
That works out to $8.57 per ounce, which is pricier than most.
