Overall Opinion:

I gave James Read Bronzing Mousse 2 out of 5 stars, so in my eyes it really fell short.

I wanted to like this product, as I know some people do, but I just didn’t.

The first thing I really didn’t like is how messy the application process is. The product squirted out all over my bathroom and was a real pain to clean up. The brown guide made it even messier.

Second, the smell is awful. They didn’t use any fragrance to cover up the DHA smell so it smells very strongly.

And, my tan was pretty unnatural looking. I looked orange and kind of streaky, so it was a dead giveaway that I had used self tanner.

I did like how quickly the product dried and the price wasn’t bad either.

But overall, I wasn’t very impressed by this one.

Detailed Opinion:

Look and Feel

James Read Bronzing Mousse comes out as a thin, airy mousse with a brown guide.

The guide is a brown shade that automatically darkens as soon as it touches your skin.

The mousse is on the thinner side and is more watery than most mousses.

Application

Application was SO messy.

So, I’m not sure if I got a faulty pump or something, but when I first pumped the foam, it went flying all over my bathroom.

The mousse aggressively shoots out of the bottle making it hard to contain. So I was left with a brown, foamy bathroom. Not to mention, some of it landed on my feet and ankles….talk about a self tanning nightmare!

The mousse blends into the skin nicely, but it seems more watery than most mousses. So you have to blend it in quickly before it runs.

The dark guide made it very messy to apply. Using a tanning mitt is an absolute must when you apply this one!

Drying Time

This mousse claims to dry in 60 seconds, which isn’t true.

The mousse took about 10-15 minutes to completely dry completely which still isn’t too bad.

Smell (Before Application)

Yuck, this one smells like DHA!

This product doesn’t use any fragrance at all to try and cover up the strong smell of DHA.

Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)

I could still smell the DHA for a few hours after I applied it.

It was a very pungent smell and wasn’t pleasant at all.

Color Produced

The color I got from this mousse was a medium shade, but it wasn’t natural looking at all.

You could tell by looking at me that I’d fake tanned and I looked a bit orange.

I had some streaky areas on my thighs and arms that also gave away the face that I’d used self tanner.

How Long It Lasts

James Read Bronzing Mousse lasted about 4 days before it started to fade away.

As it faded it became more and more splotchy, I had to scrub to get it off.

OK For Men?

Nope, I don’t think men will like how messy this one is and how unnatural the color is.

This mousse works out to $5.67 per ounce, which isn’t too bad; it’s only slightly above average.

I wish the product itself was better though!
