Overall Opinion:

Golden Star Beauty is a self tanning brand I’ve seen on Amazon for a while now, so I couldn’t wait to try it for myself.  Unfortunately, after using it, I have to say I’m not a fan.

It’s pretty easy to use as long as you spray the oil directly onto your mitt instead of your body.  But the color payoff just isn’t there for me.  I ended up getting a light to medium tan that wasn’t very noticeable.  It kind of just took the edge off my paleness, that’s it.

It also doesn’t smell good and never really dries, which is very uncomfortable and a huge pain.

The price point is fine, and I like how easy it was to order off of Amazon, but this just isn’t the self tanner for me.  So overall, I gave this self tanning oil 1.5 out of 5 stars.

Detailed Opinion:

Look and Feel

This self tanner is an oil that you spray on.  The oil has a yellow color to it, but when you apply to your skin, it goes on clear (so you can’t see where you’re applying it).

The oil itself feels like an oil.  It’s slick and oily and pretty watery.

Application

For me, it was easiest to apply this one by spraying the oil onto my mitt, then rubbing it into my skin.  I tried spraying it directly onto my skin and it was WAY too messy.  So much oil dropped to the floor, making the ground a slick mess.

But when I used a mitt, there was little to no mess, and it was very easy to apply.  The only thing is I couldn’t see where I was applying it so I had to go very slowly in order to avoid missing any spots.

Drying Time

Golden Star Beauty Self Tanning Oil takes SO long to dry.  Most oils dry quickly, but not this one.

It stayed sticky on my body almost all night long.  I kept waking up in the middle of the night because of how uncomfortable I felt!

Smell (Before Application)

This self tanner doesn’t smell good.  To me, it smells like a gross spray tan, or a very strong self tanning scent.

I think they tried to add some fragrance in, but it didn’t help in covering up the DHA smell.

Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)

By the next morning, I full on stunk like self tanner.  I’m really not a fan of the smell!

Color Produced

After I left the product on overnight, I showered it off and was left with a light to medium shade tan.  I wouldn’t say I was impressed with my tan, but it didn’t look terrible either.

Thankfully, I didn’t have any streaks even though I expected I would because I couldn’t see where I was applying it.

The color definitely wasn’t dark enough to be a “noticeable” tan.  I’d say it just took the edge off of my paleness.

How Long It Lasts

My tan lasted about 3 days before it faded.  It got a little weird looking as it faded, but nothing too crazy.

OK For Men?

No, I think there are better tanners out there for men, and I personally won’t be using this one again.

Golden Star Beauty is about $29.00 per bottle, which is pretty average, at least I didn’t have to spend an arm and a leg on it!
