Top 10 Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Dihydroxyacetone, Butylene Glycol, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Propylene Glycol, Bambusa Vulgaris Extract, Plumeria Acutifolia Flower Extract, Panthenol (Vit B5)
Overall Opinion:
In my opinion, Famous Daves Small Batch Reserve Tanning Mousse is better than average, so I gave it 3.25 out of 5 stars.
I was very happy with the color it produced. I got a dark, even, streak free tan. I really liked the shade of brown I got, it wasn’t orange or unnatural at all.
I didn’t like the smell one bit. It smelled very strongly of DHA, like old school self tanners smell. The smell only got stronger as the product developed too.
The dry time was around 25 minutes, and I felt pretty sticky as it dried (and even a bit after it dried).
The price is only slightly higher than average, so that didn’t bother me.
Applying this mousse was very simple and clean, just make sure to use a tanning mitt!
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
Famous Daves Small Batch Reserve Tanning Mousse is an airy mousse with a dark brown guide.
The guide makes it easy to see where you’re applying, but it’s pretty dark so apply with caution.
The product itself feels like most mousses do, bubbly and light.
Application
This mousse was easy to apply.
I applied with a tanning mitt and had no trouble.
The guide helps when applying; I could easily see where the product was.
It was also easy to blend into my skin, unlike some others out there.
The texture of this one was nice because it wasn’t too watery and you don’t have to worry about it dripping all over.
Drying Time
This mousse dried in about 25 minutes, and I felt sticky while I waited for it to dry.
You also have to worry about the guide staining while you’re waiting for the product to dry.
Smell (Before Application)
This one smelled like tanners did back in the day, like straight DHA!
I really didn’t care for how this one smelled, before or after application.
There wasn’t really even any hint of fragrance to cover up the DHA.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
The DHA smell became even stronger after the product developed; I just couldn’t escape it!
Color Produced
The next day, I was left with a dark, even, streak free tan.
I liked the way my tan looked, even after the dark guide washed off in the shower.
Those of you who like dark tanners will like this color as much as I did.
It’s one of the better colors out there. It wasn’t orange at all, just very natural looking.
How Long It Lasts
My tan lasted 4 days before becoming noticeably lighter, and then fading away.
I did have some very splotchy areas as it faded, which were very unpleasant to look at.
OK For Men?
Yes, I think men will enjoy the rich, streak free color.
However, the smell is really bad and the drying time could be better.
Price
Famous Daves Small Batch Reserve Tanning Mousse is $6.12 per ounce, which includes shipping. This is slightly higher than average, but not too bad of a price point.
