Overall Opinion:

I really didn’t like Equate Self Tan Foaming Mousse, so I gave it 1.5 out of 5 stars.

Equate is Walmart’s brand, and this product in particular is a dupe of St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse.  But let me tell ya, it’s nothing like it!

After you wash the guide off, there is almost no color left at all.  My tan was so light, and I had a few streaks.  I don’t think you’ll be happy with the color this one produces, unless you’re very pale to begin with.

It also smells very bad, like DHA and chemicals.  And the smell only gets stronger as it develops.

It does dry fast, and it’s very cheap, but in this case you get what you pay for.

Detailed Opinion:

Look and Feel

Equate Self Tan Foaming Mousse is a dark brown, bubbly mousse that’s on the thinner side.

The guide is SO dark, and almost grey looking.

Application

You MUST use a tanning mitt when applying this one, because the product is pretty thin and the guide is very dark.

If you don’t, the product will melt in your hand and become a watery mess.

The dark guide helps you see where you’re applying the product, and looks super dark once applied to your skin.

Drying Time

This is the one thing the product has going for it.

It dried incredibly fast.

In under 5 minutes my body was completely smooth, dry and not sticky.

It may dry too quickly for some, as you need to blend it into your skin pretty quickly before it dries.

Smell (Before Application)

This mousse doesn’t smell good at all.

It smells like self tanners used to…very strongly of DHA and chemicals.

I think they tried to cover up the DHA smell with some fragrance, but the fragrance just smells like chemicals to me.

Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)

As the product developed, the DHA smell was still apparent, and the next morning it was still there!

I couldn’t wait to shower this one off, just to get rid of the awful smell.

Color Produced

This one is really a let down as far as color goes.

Once I showered the guide off, the color that was left was so light!

My tan was a light shade, and almost non-existent.  I’ve read a few other reviews of this product that said the same thing (I wanted to make sure it wasn’t just me!).

This one says it’s a dupe of the St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse, but it produced nowhere near the same color.

I had a few light streaks on my legs as well, which were annoying.

Overall, this color is so light and you won’t be able to notice it unless you’re very pale to begin with.

How Long It Lasts

Since it was so light, I’d say it lasted 2 days tops.

The one bonus to it being so light is I didn’t get any patchiness as it faded.

OK For Men?

No.  It produces almost no color, and smells horrible.

Price

Equate Self Tan Foaming mousse is just $2 per ounce, but it’s not worth it.  I’d rather spend my money on the real St. Tropez Mousse, even though it’s way more expensive.
