Overall Opinion:
I was not impressed with Ed Hardy Mermaid Sunless Tan Spray…at all!
The aerosol mist was really messy and the product came out uneven on my skin.
If you don’t hold the bottle at the same distance from your skin consistently than you will end up with dark splotchy areas, like I did.
I ended up having to go back and blend the product into my skin, so application was a nightmare.
The smell made me cough, it smelled so strongly of chemicals.
The color was also sub par– it was way too light and streaky.
The dry time was longer than average, and it faded pretty quickly.
So the only thing I really liked about this product was the price point, at least I didn’t waste an arm and a leg on this self tanner!
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
Ed Hardy Mermaid Sunless Tan Spray is a spray with a dark brown guide.
It is a lightweight aerosol mist, and it gives you instant color
Application
Application is VERY messy!
After I was done applying this one I had to Swiffer my whole entire bathroom and throw my rug in the wash.
If you don’t consistently hold the bottle at the same distance from your body, the guide looks so splotchy on your skin.
So I ended up looking like a dalmatian after I applied it.
The guide was so dark, and the mist got all over my bathroom…it was an absolute mess.
This one came out so uneven, it was running down my legs.
I had to use a tanning mitt to blend it into my skin because it looked so bad.
Drying Time
This self tanner stayed pretty sticky for about 35-40 minutes.
I expected it to dry faster because the product is so light and fine.
But my skin felt wet and sticky until it completely dried about 40 minutes.
So overall, it took longer than average to dry.
Smell (Before Application)
As soon as I started spraying Ed Hardy Mermaid Sunless Tan Spray my entire bathroom smelled like spray paint.
It smelled so strongly of chemicals that I couldn’t smell anything else.
There was no fragrance or DHA smell, just chemicals.
It smelled gross.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
The next day I dreaded smelling my skin, because I feared it would reek of chemicals.
Thankfully, that smell went away overnight and I couldn’t smell much, except a slight “self tanner” smell.
Color Produced
After I washed the guide off, the color that remained was a light to medium shade.
It was a little streaky, but I think it really helped that I blended the product with a tanning mitt after I sprayed it on.
I think the product had the potential to be a lot more splotchy than it turned out.
The color was too light for me, but it did look natural and not orange.
So overall, the color wasn’t anything to write home about.
How Long It Lasts
Ed Hardy Mermaid Sunless Tan Spray lasted 2-3 days.
3 days is about average, so this lasted a little less than average, your lucky if it lasts for 3 days.
The product turned out streaky to begin with, and it stayed streaky as it faded on my skin… not a pretty sight.
I was a little embarrassed with how my legs looked while this product was fading, thankfully it was pretty much completely gone after 3 days.
OK For Men?
No.
The application is a pain in the butt for a product that smells awful and doesn’t produce good color.
Price
This self tanner worked out to about $3 an oz which is pretty average.
It is $14.99 for a 5 oz bottle.
In my opinion, there are far better tanners for the price.
