Top 10 Ingredients: Water/Aqua/Eau, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water, Dihydroxyacetone, Ethoxydiglycol, Dipropylene Glycol, Troxerutin, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Isoceteth-20, Methyl Gluceth-20, Glycereth-7
Overall Opinion:
I gave Temptu Self Tanner 1.5 out of 5 stars, so there isn’t much I like about it.
First off, you need the airbrush system to apply this one, and with it your costs are $170! That’s by far the most expensive self tanner I’ve tested.
Also, the system is made for your face, so it makes it really difficult and time consuming to apply self tanner to your entire body. They shouldn’t advertise it for your body as well.
It was really hard to cover my entire body, and I ended up with entire areas I missed, and my tan turned out so uneven. The color was on the orangey side too. It was a medium shade, but my tan looked awful.
The smell is also very bad, it smells lie straight DHA.
The only thing I liked is how quickly it dried, but I definitely didn’t like it $170.00 worth!
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
So this self tanner comes out as an airbrush mist (similar to a spray tan).
The mist is a brown/orange color, but you can’t see it too well once it goes on your skin, so it doesn’t really act as a guide.
The mist is very light weight.
Application
Application is very time consuming and complicated compared to your average self tanner.
You need to apply this mist with the Temptu Airbrush system, and I found it a pain to use.
You’re supposed to remove a little plug before putting the product in the machine, but I had a faulty plug that kept closing, so I ended up having to rip it off. Top it off with the fact I was so frustrated I couldn’t get the product to come out until I figured out I had a faulty plug…..I was very annoyed!
So once I got the product to actually work, I found it took forever to just do my legs with the self tanner. Now, the airbrush system is designed for makeup application, but they do make a self tanner they say you can use on the face and body. I’d just stick to using this on your face, because it takes SO long to do your whole body with the tiny applicator.
It was also hard to tell where I was applying the product because I wasn’t touching my skin at all. I was using the system which produced a very light mist.
After application, I was sure I had missed some areas.
Applying this self tanner is also very messy.
I stood in my bath tub (not my shower, because the machine needs to be plugged in) and residue got all over the floor. A fine mist drops all over the ground when you apply it, so it makes clean up messy too!
Drying Time
There was only a few minutes drying time with this one.
As soon as I was finished applying it to my body, I was dry.
So, I really liked that, I think it was because the mist was so light and fine.
Smell (Before Application)
Ugh, this one smells like straight DHA!
My whole bathroom stunk, and my husband actually made a comment about how it smelled bad.
There was no attempt to cover the DHA smell at all.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
The next few hours I could still smell the DHA smell.
I could smell hints of it the next morning too, and I couldn’t wait to shower it off!
Color Produced
My tan ended up being super splotchy and unnatural, just as I expected.
I don’t necessarily think it’s because their formula is bad, I think it’s because the application process is so inconvenient and difficult to cover your whole body.
The machine is designed to cover small areas on your face, not your whole body. They shouldn’t say you can use the formula on your body, because it’s a little misleading.
The color was a bit too orange in my opinion as well, I just really wasn’t happy with my tan.
There were huge areas I missed, and the rest of my tan looked uneven and splotchy.
The color was about a medium shade which is good, and they said you can use it as a gradual tanner.
But overall, I was really let down by the color I got.
How Long It Lasts
The color I had lasted about 3 days.
It became very speckled looking as it faded, but my tan was uneven to start with.
OK For Men?
No.
I think this system is wayyy too much work for men (or anyone). And the tan isn’t even good. It’s very uneven and takes forever to apply.
Price
At $170.00 for the machine and tanning solution….this is by far the most expensive self tanner I’ve ever tried!
