Overall Opinion:
Sun Labs Tan Overnight Self Tanning Lotion has become one of our favorite self tanners, falling just outside our top ten. I would definitely recommend this product to my family and friends.
What I like most about Sun Lab is how easy it is to apply. It’s thicker than many other lotions we’ve reviewed but, for me, it helped produce a smooth and streak free look.
This product has a very subtle guide color in it that washes off in the shower. The final color that was produced was about two shades darker than my natural skin tone and had a tint of sun kissed bronze.
The only thing I didn’t like about this product was the smell. Some self tanners have added perfumes and scents to help mask the smell of the DHA in the product, but there was no masking Sun Lab.
The smell did go away once I showered the next morning, but the “tan smell” followed me around the whole day up until that point.
We gave Sun Laboratories Self Tanning Lotion a rank of 3.5 out of 5 stars. Overall the afforadable price and excellent results land this product just outside our Top 10.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
Sun Labs pumps out of the bottle a very, very dark brown. (I’m not going to lie- I was nervous about the color when I first saw it.) I used gloves, and recommend that anyone who uses this product do as well.
The lotion is also very thick. As noted above, I prefer to use self tanning lotions over sprays and foams because it’s much easier to rub in. This lotion is soft and soaks into the skin completely.
Application
Sun Labs applies very easily. The color is instant so it was easy to see any spots that you might have missed. The lotion moisturizes your skin while you rub it in and continued to do so for quite a while after application.
I saw color changes in my skin instantly after using Sun Labs. The guide color washed off in the shower but it is a very subtle change in color.
Drying Time
About 20 minutes after I applied Sun Labs I finally felt like I was fully dry. But, for those 20 minutes, it felt more like my skin was damp from the moisturizer rather than the feeling of being wet like you get from some self tanning products.
I slept on my white sheets after application and when I woke up I was pleasantly surprised to see that none of the self tanner rubbed off in the middle of the night.
Smell (Before Application)
This was the only complaint I had about this product. And is the main reason it did not get a top rating. Sun Labs Tan Overnight Self Tanning Lotion has the distinct “self tan” smell that most people try to avoid in these products. I didn’t like it at all, and it only got worse post-application.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
The good news, is that after I showered for the first time since applying Sun Lab the smell had completely washed off. (Thank goodness!).
Color Produced
I saw my skin start to change color as soon as I applied Sun Labs.
The product pumps out a scary dark color, but don’t get nervous, when you spread and rub it into your skin it develops into a really nice natural bronze tint. Approximately two hours after I had put Sun Labs all over my body I noticed that the color had reached its full potential.
Some of the color came off during my first shower from the guide, but I was really happy with the color that was left. It didn’t turn my skin orange, but instead resulted in more of a suntan I would have worked all summer to get, and I don’t mind letting people think that I did ;)
How Long It Lasts
After about 3 days the color started to fade. Overall, this product lasts about five days.
OK For Men?
Yes, I would recommend this product for men.
The only problem I could see any man having is the initial “self tan” odor. But, like I said, that only lasts until you shower and then it is completely odorless.
The color produced was very natural looking, which I know is important for most men who use self tanning products.
