Overall Opinion:
I gave Million Dollar Tan Mermaid Mousse Extreme 3.25 out of 5 stars.
I really like the color it produces; I just wish it were a little darker. This is their darkest shade and I expected it to give a really dark tan, but I ended up getting a deep medium tan. I was happy with how natural and smooth my tan was, and you can always apply it a few more times to darken up your tan.
The smell of this one is really bad; it smells very strongly of DHA. I even woke up smelling a little like DHA and I couldn’t wait to shower it off.
Compared to most mousses, this one is easier to apply. As long as you use a tanning mitt it shouldn’t get too messy because the guide is very light.
It was pretty average as far as drying time goes, and I loved that I didn’t feel sticky while I was waiting for it to dry.
The price is average, and I’d say the color you get is worth it.
So overall, this mousse is a little better than your average self tanner.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
Million Dollar Tan Mermaid Mousse Extreme is a light, fluffy mouse that comes looking light brown.
I wouldn’t say it has a color guide, because as you rub it into your skin, the brown color quickly dissipates.
I really liked the texture of this mousse; it held its shape really well and was very airy.
Application
The mousse is relatively easy to apply.
I used a tanning mitt and it helped contain the product so it didn’t get on my hands.
On the bottle, they actually recommend using a tanning mitt to apply it.
I’d recommend using a tanning mitt as it makes the mousse really easy to apply and it also prevents your hands from getting orange. I’ve also noticed that with mousses, once you apply them to your hand the heat quickly melts them. Wearing a tanning mitt alleviates this problem so the mousse doesn’t melt in your palm.
The mousse is light brown, so you don’t really have to worry about a dark guide getting everywhere.
Drying Time
I found this one to be pretty average as far as drying time goes.
It took about 25 minutes to completely dry. After that I was able to put my clothes back on without staining them.
This one didn’t get on my sheets either, which is always nice.
I didn’t feel wet or sticky at all while I was waiting for this one to dry…YAY!
Smell (Before Application)
I really didn’t like the smell of Million Dollar Tan Mermaid Mousse Extreme,
It smells very strongly of DHA.
I can faintly smell citrus, but it doesn’t even come close to covering up the DHA smell.
I’d say that was my least favorite part of this mousse…it reeks!
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
When I woke up the next morning I could still smell a little DHA on my body.
It wasn’t too strong or overwhelming, but the scent was definitely there.
Color Produced
Million Dollar Tan Mermaid Mousse Extreme gave me a nice, medium tan.
The shade was a very natural looking, medium tan. I wish I was a little darker, but I was very happy with how natural my medium shade tan was. I actually went back to their website to see if they had a darker shade, but it looks like this is the darkest. For those of you who are very fair skinned, this will probably be a little darker on you.
The instructions say the product is “buildable”, meaning you can apply it numerous times to get a darker tan. I only applied it once. If you’re looking to be a bit darker, I’d apply it a few more nights to deepen the tan.
It wasn’t orange, but I had a few semi-streaky areas. They weren’t too noticeable, but I noticed them because I was looking.
I really liked the color it produces; I looked like I just got home from vacation!
How Long It Lasts
My tan lasted about 4 days before it started to fade.
As it faded I got pretty splotchy, and I had some bad streaks on my arms and legs.
You’ll probably need to apply this one 1-2 times a week to keep a dark glow.
OK For Men?
Yeah, I think men will be happy with the color this mousse produces.
The drawbacks are the smell and the spottiness as the product fades, but the color is definitely worth it.
Price
This foam works out to $5.83 per ounce, which is pretty average (maybe a tad over average).
I’d say it’s worth it for the nice color you get.
