Overall Opinion:

I was excited to review Lavera Self Tanning Lotion because it is considered ‘Organic’ with no harmful chemicals.  But, after reading the Top 10 ingredients we found that most of them are the same ingredients in other non-organic self tanners.

Yes, we were equally disappointed with this find and are left with the unanswered question:  What exactly makes this product Organic?

And perhaps using the word ‘Organic’ means you can jack up your prices because Lavera Self Tanning Lotion is one of the more expensive self tanners at $6.40 per ounce.

Now, aside from the ingredients and the price, there are a few things about Lavera that we did like.  The consistency of the lotion is easy to apply and moisturizes well.  Also, Lavera is one of the better smelling self tanners we’ve reviewed and there are no traces of DHA odor.

However, we gave Lavera 2.5 out of 5 stars.  Even though it smells really good and is easy to apply, we couldn’t overlook the fact that the ingredients aren’t necessarily as organic as we thought.  Bottom line:   it’s a very expensive product that results in a mediocre sunless tan that doesn’t last very long.

Detailed Opinion:

Look and Feel

Lavera squeezes out of the tube a white lotion.  Its consistency is like a thick moisturizer.

Application

It’s very easy to apply Lavera Self Tanning Lotion.  There isn’t a guide to this product, and it rubs in very well.  You can feel the moisturizer on your skin which is helpful to sure that you don’t miss a spot.

Drying Time

It takes about 20-30 minutes until Lavera feels dry enough to dress.  This is a little longer drying time than the average self tanner.

I put Lavera on at night and let it dry for about 30 minutes before crawling into bed.  I felt like I was completely dry, but when I woke up in the morning I had streaks of tanner on my legs.  The color had rubbed off from one leg onto the other because of the position that I was sleeping in.

Oops! I had to wear pants all day to hide my tan streaks :(

Smell (Before Application)

I LOVE the smell of Lavera.  I started craving Cinnamon Rolls as soon as I put it on.  It smells like the Cinnabon Stand at the mall.  I think the combination of Macadamia Nut Oil and Sunflower Oil is what gives this product a salivating scent.

Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)

About an hour after application the Cinnamon Roll smell fades and continues to get lighter and lighter until completely gone after 5 hours.

The next day, after showering that night, there was no smell whatsoever on my skin.

Color Produced

You won’t feel like you’re putting on self tanner.  Instead, it will look like you are just putting on your daily moisturizer because there’s no color guide.  After about 5 hours your color will have developed.  It’s a light brown with a hint of bronze.  It isn’t a drastic change in color but the subtleness of it will give you a glow.

How Long It Lasts

After showering for the first time after applying Lavera, I noticed that a lot of my color was gone.  The directions say that the color lasts about 3-7 days and to reapply twice a week.

If you apply twice a week your color will last , at its darkest, about 4 days.  This is less than average among most high-end self tanners.

OK For Men?

Yes, Lavera is easy to apply and the smell isn’t super feminine…..just super YUMMY! :)

Price

$32.00 for a 5 oz. bottle; about $6.40 per ounce.
