Overall Opinion:
I ended up giving Hawaiian Tropic Self Tanning Lotion 1.5/5 stars. So I obviously am not a fan.
It smells good, but that’s the only thing I liked about it.
I literally got no color at all from it. I woke up looking super pale and white, like I was the day before.
The bottle it comes in is also pretty confusing. It looks like it’s going to be a mousse, but it’s actually a lotion.
It took over 40 minutes to dry, and I felt very sticky while I waited.
So as you can tell, there aren’t many things I liked about this one.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
This self tanner is a creamy, white lotion.
It very much resembles your average body moisturizer in texture and color.
The texture is on the thicker side, but not as thick as a body butter or crème.
Application
This one really confused me! It comes in a bottle that’s for a mousse, so I thought it was going to be a mousse instead of a lotion.
So I got my tanning mitt ready and stood in the shower to apply, as I do with mousses (since they tend to be a bit messy). I was really surprised when it came out as a lotion, I really didn’t expect that!
I ended up still using the tanning mitt to apply the lotion and application was very simple.
This one doesn’t get too messy because there’s no guide in it.
Drying Time
Hawaiian Tropic Self Tanning Lotion took about 40 minutes to dry.
That’s longer than average, I wish it dried faster.
I also felt pretty sticky while I waited for it to dry, which was annoying.
At least I didn’t have to worry about it staining my clothes while I waited forever for it to dry.
Smell (Before Application)
The scent of this lotion was my favorite thing about this one.
It smells fruity, and girly….I love the smell!
It kind of smells a bit “perfumey”…like a Victoria Secret product.
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
When I woke up the next morning I could smell a little bit of DHA on my skin.
I could still smell hints of the fruity smell, but they were mixed in with DHA.
Color Produced
I didn’t see any results when using Hawaiian Tropic Self Tanning Lotion.
I was really disappointed, I woke up as pale as I was the day before.
I feel like this is more of a moisturizer than a self tanner.
The bottle says it gives you a medium shade tan and gets you “two shades darker”, but I didn’t even get one shade darker.
It was a real let down in the “color produced” department.
How Long It Lasts
Well, I never really got a tan…so I’d say this one lasted not even a day.
I couldn’t see any color at all from this one, so it was hard to tell how quickly it faded.
OK For Men?
No, this is more of a body lotion than a self tanner.
I saw no results at all and was very disappointed!
Price
At $10.99 per bottle, the price is really cheap.
But I still wouldn’t pay that, due to the lack of results.
