Overall Opinion:
I gave Darksyde Self Tanning Lotion 2.5 out of 5 stars, so there were a few things I liked and some I didn’t like.
It was a very average product. First off, the price is super cheap; you can’t beat it. The bottle is only $12.95 through Amazon.
I really enjoyed the scent; it smells like cherry or almond…I couldn’t get enough of it!
But the application was messy, and the product ended up staining my sheets, which is a HUGE negative in my book.
The color was a medium to dark shade but it had an orange hue to it, so it wasn’t my favorite.
My tan also faded really uneven and it didn’t look too pretty!
So overall, I found Darksyde Self Tanning Lotion to be a very average self tanner, and gave it 2.5 stars.
Detailed Opinion:
Look and Feel
Darksyde Self Tanning Lotion comes out as a slick, dark, lotion.
It has an extremely dark guide, so the product itself almost looks black.
The lotion is pretty lightweight, and it feels very smooth.
Application
Application of this self tanner is rather messy.
It’s a dark brown color so it ended up staining my sheets and clothes L
You have to pay attention to where you’re applying it, and be extra careful not to get any product on your towels.
The product itself took a few minutes to blend into my skin, just due to the dark guide.
A tanning mitt is an absolute must when applying this one!
Once I had applied it my skin looked very dark and a bit streaky due to the dark color guide.
Drying Time
This lotion dried in about 25 minutes, so it was pretty average as far as drying time goes.
I didn’t feel sticky or wet while I was waiting for it to dry either which was nice.
Just be very careful not to touch anything while you’re waiting for it to dry, because it will stain.
It actually stained by bed sheets even after it was completely dry!
Smell (Before Application)
This self tanning lotion smells really yummy.
To me it smells like cherry and almond (one of my absolute favorite smells!).
The odd thing is there is not cherry or almond in it!
But I’ll take it, because it does a really good job covering up the DHA and smells delish!
Smell (After Several Hours And The Next Day)
After it started to develop and the next morning it smelled more like DHA than the yummy smell from before.
The DHA smell wasn’t super strong, but it was definitely there.
Color Produced
I have mixed feelings about the color this one produced.
Before I washed the guide off my tan was a really nice dark brown color. I looked really dark and was very happy with my tan.
However, after I washed the product off I was left with a medium to dark shade tan that looked a little orange.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’d rather look a little orange than pasty white. But I wish I looked brown instead of having an orangey tint.
The color was still pretty dark which I liked, but the shade was just a bit off.
My tan was very even and I didn’t have any streaks.
How Long It Lasts
My tan lasted around 4-5 days, which I was happy with.
However, as it faded my tan became really splotchy. It faded really uneven because the color
OK For Men?
I don’t think men will really like this one. The color is pretty dark, but it’s a little orange.
It also is messy to apply and fades unevenly.
Price
This is one of the cheapest self tanners on the market.
It breaks down to only $1.52 per ounce, which is very affordable.
